I am looking for a replacement pump for my 83 bj60. replaced the bushing and seal, and it does not leak at all; however it appears to not be boosting much at all. If I rev it right up the steering gets lighter.
I still have to check out my front end to make sure nothing is binding but I do not think that is a problem. maybe something in my box? It appears to have trouble in whatever position the wheels are pointed.

could someone at least let me know if a pump from a fj60 is the same? that way I could expand my search.

There are two 3B compatible pumps. One is common to the FJ-62 (later model 3B bracket). The question is which bracket do you have? Check my sig for 3B--FJ-40 thread, I detailed which bracket does not mate to the FJ-62 pump. The part number on the bracket should tell you enough.

The fj62 pump will not work with the 83 bj60 bracket...late 85 bj pump bracket will accept the fj62 pump though.

Okay

While this is being talked about,
what pump and bracket would be compatible with my 13BT?
Either going to do the mini truck ox or Saginaw.
Thanks, Mike

I just put a 62 series P/S pump on my BJ60, you need the 44443-60060 bracket, it should be stamped right on the bracket. The 13BT used in BJ70s used the same bracket but used a remote reservoir pump, I have a pump, bracket and remote reservoir I decided not to use. I don't see any reason why you could'nt use the 60060 bracket with a 62 series pump on a 13Bt. The only thing might be how the lines hook up, originally on my BJ 60 the high pressure line came in the back of the pump and on the 62 series it comes in on the side, but my high pressure line curved around just fine. I suppose this thread really should be back in the diesel forum.

Hope this helps.

One last thing I forgot to post the part number for P/S pump I used.

44320-60090, pump assy, less pulley

This pump is still available new, I got mine from DiscountToyotaParts.com

good luck

I guess that I could take the pump out of my bj70 (87) and put it into my 83 and get an fj pump for it..I have a used pump on the way. Checked out the bearings in the swivels. Fixed that problem and still need a pump that will give me power steering. It does steer better, almost as good as armstrong. Better than before anyways. Now when the pump arrives I should have smile on my face.

got my pump in and it worked great for about 40 miles. now no power steering.. not even any leaks. just no boost.. it was a differnet style looks like itcame from a 70 series or at least it has a remote reservoir. Do you think it failed or something is causing my problems?
So I am guessing that new one you talk about valdez should work. as I now have a different mount.

I will take it back into the shop tomorrow and check the front end again. I really do not want to swap out my 70 series and try it to only put it back again.

The last time I put one in I had a hard time getting all the air out of it. You may still have air it. I had to jack the BJ up and rotate the wheels back and forth with no load on the wheels with the engine running, it took about 30 lock to lock rotations of the steering wheel before it felt right.

Good luck
