Yesterday I parked uphill on a moderate incline for about 2 hours and when I drove away my engine was revving about 1200 - 2400 RPMs, but I was only traveling about 2 mph? I drive up hills this steep all the time and don't experience this fault.

I didn’t smell burning clutch plates or anything and as soon as I got to a stop sigh (level ground) I didn’t experience this problem again.

So the smart guy that I am (not) I tried to duplicate this problem a second time, it’s confirmed, I can repeat this process. I drove around the rest of the day and today (level ground) and didn’t experience this particular problem again, only while parking up a hill?

I guess I throw some numbers at you,

1993
265,000 miles
transmission fluid/filter changed at 254,000 miles
NSS replaced 1,200 miles ago

Can this be a solenoid problem?

That would be my first guess but the parking on an incline bit has me stumped.

This may seem obvious, but check your tranny fluid level again- if it is low, this is behavior that could present itself only on an incline or when you come to an abrupt stop and immediately try to accelerate again, when the lack of fluid would really be a problem. Don't ask me how I know. :(

Did you shut the truck off and re-start it in this process?

Yes, I came to a stop on an incline and shut the truck off for about 2 hours.

The second time, I did the exact samething but for about 10 minutes.

I forgot to add that I have the; I think you call it the famous "flairing" transmission problem.

alaskacruiser: you have a valid point and I did check this. But the funny thing is, everytime I check the fluid while the engine is still running, the mark line is diagonal across the stick. Almost as if it's slaping fluid on the stick from a upwards and over motion. <-- I guess a 1/2 qt wouldn't hurt to try????

No, I mean did you shut the truck off right after you had the transmisison act up and then re-start it?

What's an NSS, and describe the "flaring" problem and how long you've had that.

No yellow school bus jokes? You guys are being very gracious tonight! :)

The NSS = Neutral Safety Switch, it's the do dad that will not let you start your LC in anything other than park or neutral. It also reads your gear shift postion so that the correct reverse lights work, god knows what else it does.

The flairing is where the transmission likes to slip an extra 500 rpms then return to normal when it's unhappy i.e. downshifting while going uphill and certain lunar phases.

No, I mean did you shut the truck off right after you had the transmisison act up and then re-start it?

It didn't even enter my mind, :whoops: but I thought that I had that covered by my statement "The smart guy that I am (not)" so I pressed the gas peddle harder to advoid traffic.

I suspect a shift solenoid

My rig flare's and this does not at all sound like that problem I would concur with Cdan.

OK, great!

This doesn't sound so bad from the reserch that I've done on this board.

Thanks every body.
