So I did the repack, and swapped sides. I used a new c clip that joins the inner axel to the birfield just to be on the safe side. Now... how do I get them back together. Is there a special c clip compressor tool? I've looked at auto parts stores and the only one they have are for piston c clips (only down to 2" or so.) I've tired pliers and a screwdriver with no luck. Do you just beat on it with a big hammer, and make sure the clip is even all the way around so it doesn't shear? Thanks in advance for your replies.

I'm assuming it's the c-clip on the end of the inner axle. You basically start the axle into the birf and while providing a slight pressure on the axle start to collapse the c-clip with a couple of screw drivers until the clip gets started in the relief on the birf and then drive the axle in with a BFH. Just be sure to protect the axle splines if using a metal hammer.

There might be other ways to do this but this is how I get the job done.
