I work in a papermill and can get free/borrow grease and they have Mobilux EP 004 do you think this will be ok to put in the birfield and the wheel bearings, I have copied and pasted fron the Mobil web site....
Mobilux EP 004 and Mobilux EP 023 are particularly suitable for the lubrication of enclosed gears and bearings in poorly sealed gear cases they can also be used in many other industrial applications where conventional gear oils cannot be retained in gear cases, chain cases, etc. because of leakage due to worn or missing seals. The recommended operating temperature range is -25 to 120ºC for Mobilux EP 004 and -15 to 120ºC for Mobilux EP 023.

Grease

I forgot to say, the 004 grease has the consistancy of very thick custard, so would level out in the casing and would always be in the birfield and not flung to the outside of the case.

I would say no for both the wheel bearings and the birfields. You want something with a higer temp range for the wheel bearings, and I dont think it has the molybium <sic> in it that is recommended for the birfields...

Birfs call for Moly fortified NLGI No. 2. Less than 2 bucks a tube (unless you go with the higher cost synthetic stuff). 4 tubes should be enough to cover both sides.

Multipurpose Lithium Molybdenum disulfide grease...

Caterpillar part number 5P-0960 for the 14.50oz tube.

Good luck!
