So I have read the three or four tech threads floating around about the birfield job. I had my shopping list written out and drove down to my local auto parts store. Everything was going good...until the grease. Which is where my question lies...

I understand MP grease is the multi-purpse stuff. But when I asked the ever so helpful clerk (the one I had to seek out) about the Moly-Fortified grease. He just scratched his head, and said the multi-purpose grease would work.

So is there some big secret about the Moly grease? Is it only sold in special locations? Or am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance

You need to use Moly in the birfs. It's a special grease for high-pressure applications. The balls inside the birfs have relatively little contact area, thus high pressure, esp when in 4L.

Keep shopping around to different auto parts places. Somebody will have what you need.

If you want to learn more on this subject, do a search under screename "cary" and that will lead you to many discussions re oil/grease/lubricants. Very informative.

Lubriplate No. 3000 and 3000-W

"These tacky, moly, extreme pressure greases provide durable, tenacious, adhesive films to protect against water, rust and corrosive contaminants. 3000-W is for cold ambient temperatures. Excellent for construction and mining applications."

Nicest I have found and now use for birfs and knuckle cavities.
