I'm almost positive the dimple faces out to the felt. Hopefully somone else hint, hint, Cdan will chime in.

I don't remember. I usually look at it as I take it apart.........

When I removed my original I didnt realize there was a dimple so I paid no mind to what way it went.

On the same note, I have little confidence that anything was on right to begin with. It is obvious someone has been into these birfs before. There was silicone everywhere and it looks like they used a chisel or screwdriver to turn the hub nut.

I think that dimple kinda seats against the felt and acts as an anchor.

Mine were against the felt too.

on the three that I've done I've placed the side of the rubber seal that has a ridge running around it against the knuckle housing. That ring fits nicely inside the hole of the housing. Now I'm not sure if this would be considered a dimple.

I've got one each way... d'oh. On the first one, I thought like Rick.., that the ridge was to fit inside the steel ring on the knuckle side. When I got the other side off, I saw that the ridge was pointed towards the felt side. To late to change the first side. No explosion yet.

I switched mine dimple facing out to felt. I looked at the other side of the axle that was still bolted together and that's the way it was.

I doubt that it matters much.

By dimple I mean ridge. Too much inhalation of brake cleaner fluid has left my vocabulary a bit limited.
