Holy s*** you guys are anal. I only replace stuff that needs it...minimalist, cheap bastard that I am. What does a pile of new OEM parts like that go for anyway? That would blow my entire years budget.

I'd call it prudent, not anal.
At 190,000 miles, almost everything is worn. If the wheel/knuckle bearings are taken care of, they *might* still be good, but we all know that the PO's almost never did anything to our trucks.....

This job takes an entire weekend, starting on Friday night. Is your time so cheap that you want to do it all over again just because something goes bad right afterward?

he has gone further than some of us with the knuckle studs and dust caps etc. , but those aren't really expensive to begin with...

Think of it this way. If you waited until your wheel bearings were shot to replace them, then there's a very high likelyhood of damage being done to the spindle as well. If you replace them on a regular schedule before they start to wear incorrectly then you minimize your chances of having to do more expensive repairs.

Klunk,
This is not a full weekend job. You should be able to get both sides done in one day if you are dilligent and start early enough. Seriously, if you have your plan pulled together your parts sorted etc, you should be done by late afternoon kicking back some #6. Then again, most of us have had luck with 2 arm pullers unlike yourself :D

You're right. Prudent is a better adjective. I am too poor to be that prodent. I also have too many projects and have a hard time keeping up with PM's. Poor plannign on my part. I do need to do this on the wifes 80 though. Not looking forward to it.

Ha !!!!
Cheap is where its at :D
I can do 2 trucks in one day :flipoff2:
as long as the person whos packing the bearing wasnt so anal and a :princess:
I went the aftermarket way as I looked at both side by side as the same time and found nothing wrong with the "cheap" parts when put right next to one another and no one could tell which was which that day.
I have now started to oil the felts when I do them so they dont soak in water when new . this will keep the rust down where the knuckle and the felt come together . Most 80s when new were mall cruisers so by the time they hit the woods the felts are well oiled (by not having the inner axles seals done )
