I then attached the drill press to the frame. Was able to drill a couple holes but the body soon got in the way of the lever wheel to lower it so didn't do much good...

So I went back to drilling a bunch of 20-30 minute holes with the bits I had...

Here is the basic mockup. You can see how much drill material was left. With a hand drill and 3/8" thick angle iron, took forever...

Here is C channel mocked in place. Goal of this is for lateral stability when towing.. I theory I want to be able to tow a car with no issues what so ever. All of this is overkill but I would rather be strong than weak of course... :)

Next came the receiver hitch part of it while the rear bumper is easy to manage (before it has the sliders welded to it)... I bought this little guy for $18 at the local car parts store. Then headed over to the shop where I borrowed the magnetic drill press from.. They had fabbed up these crazy pieces for a Deer Valley (think Aspen) house, that is about 1 foot I-beam I believe, maybe 50 feet long, all for one massive house... Pretty crazy...

Anyway, I have a torch but using a plasma is so easy and I figured it would produce less slag (it slightly did) but in the end I should have just used my torch, wouldn't have been too much more difficult...

Back at the shop, I was a little disappointed with how big the ring around the cap at the end was, so I trimmed it down a little... Then welded in place...

Here is photo of the C channel 45 degree welded in place in final resting place. I think between this and the sliders odds of this bumper going anywhere are slim an none :)

Then I started working on the sliders.. Did not get a whole lot done until I quit at about 2AM last night. This whole rear bumper is taking a lot longer than I thought or maybe feels that way with the move thrown in..

Anyway, first is placement.. I used all sorts of weird things I had lying around including some hinges that I actually tack welded to the beams to get the height and placement exactly right. The body also bowed out a hair when I trimmed the rear rockers (or maybe its like that originally - but I plan to pinch in regardless)....

You can also see the marks where I plan to trim and how it will be integrated into the rear bumper...

Here is really the only part I got done on the actual sliders last night.. First things first, just like my last set of sliders, I want the rear to sort of mimic the body lines. So I marked the angle of the rear wheel well to continue into the slider... Then started cutting...

At first I eyeballed the angle but then used this makeshift square I had lying around to actually get the angle of the slider to be perpendicular to the truck frame.. Hate to say it but with Utah laws, mud flaps will be attached here so it helps if they are square.. I also leveled with my sweet new grinder here :D

Next started welding. Because of the angle of the cut is weird, weld on one side then go nuts with the hammer, then weld 360.. These are not important welds as this is cosmetic...

Here is a photo of my "grinding" setup.. Ear plugs, eye wear, and after trying all sorts of masks none of which do the trick, started wearing a respirator to try eliminate black boogers. Even then some still comes through  I probably switch between this and the welding helmet say 10 times alone last night :)
And here is final product, ground, then used a finishing wheel to get smooth...

Andre,

Are you going to cap the end of the frame so to prevent dirt and water from getting in between the frame and bumper?

Good question, never really thought about doing that.. Problem with caps, especially with different holes in frames and such all over the place, is stuff some how still gets in there any way. Might even be worse having caps, then I could never get it out... Pretty sure I am now going to galvanize the frame when I am done fabbing, make sure there is no rust/rot at all, so if I did, wouldn't matter too much if there was crap in there....

Andre,

It is going to be kind of hard to tow that car around with the ball on the hitch like that. :flipoff2:

Man this thing is looking good. I need to get a shop and some $$$ so that I can get to work on the 40 and my piggie.

I hate to be that guy.. Of course all this stuff adds up but both this and the last shop, dirt cheap, $125 a month :D Our land lord is pysched to have guys in the back working a lot, help encourage him to start working on his own rig... I'll post of pics of the outside of the shop and where it is later when I take some pics.. You guys might find it funny... Jake (uglyoinker) stopped by two nights ago when I was still trying to figure out how to balance/place the slider, the shop is actually at our local recycling center :)

Here is photo of the last bumper I did on the pig. Still not sure how I am going to angle it all at the end caps, possibly similar to the last one. I moved the actual hitch receiver as low as possible on this one because the rear frame is lifted higher and because truck will be lifted. It will still probably need a goofy super low drop ball mount though, which I always thought were pretty cheezy behind the big lifted trucks and such around here...

OK guys sorry it has been so long.. Been over a month, been super busy with life/christmas/holidays/skiing etc. Here is a pic of what came down a couple weeks ago.. We missed the big Colorado storms though unfortunately, but we had some great powder days :)
