What are your guys' thoughts bilstein shocks or OME shocks?

My experience is that ome shocks pair with their springs. Have not experienced them anyother way.
Ome shocks are low pressure and give their stiff springs a balanced ride.
I now run Bilstein 5150's with my 4 inch Alcans for what Alcan says are the best shocks for their springs.
Bilsteins are high pressure. My experience is that the Bilsteins track better and handle rough terrain better (at speed) because they force the spring/tire to the ground. More contact, less spring bounce equals better tracktion.
I've gone thru 2 sets of ome suspensions in 200k miles. I like the Alcan/Bilstein better on road and of road.
No science, just opinion.

I have no experience with the Bilsteins in the 60, but i really like the OME shocks, suspension, etc. Makes a difference on highway and off - especially on corduroy roads at 35 mph.

On the mini truck side of the world, Bilsteins pretty much rule the world.

I've never heard anyone with a wagon complain about OME.

I'd love to hear from those who run Bilsteins on wagons, as I am about ready to do the suspension on my 62.

Same, I'd like to hear from someone running bilsteins on their beast

I run the 14" travel bilsteins on my SOA 61. They are much nicer then the ranchos I tried but I still find them a bit soft for the weight I am throwing at them for high speed driving in the city. (yes you can do that with a 12H-T and 38s :D )

The 14" travel shocks also need a little more room then others for the install.

Overall I think they are one of the best shocks out there. I have ran gabriels, Ranchos and procomps. I like the biltstiens the best.

Ranchos suck! You can control compression only and then they let the suspension fall so fast only to be slowed down by what ever number you have dialed in then the cycle repeats itself. (bounce, bounce)
Bilsteins contol the spring on compression and rebound.
I did have to re-hook up my sway bar after changing to Bilstein. But that's OK.

Interesting, I did the same thing on the rear and it made a world of difference.

too bad you are lifting your rig and don't need a set of Billies for your stock suspension setup -- I've got a good set of used ones left over from my OME suspension upgrade that need to go to a good home.....

I think i'll stick with OME shocks

Love my Bilsteins. I think OME are made by Monroe. as are alot of others that claims to be kick ass shocks but are just marketing hype

I heard that recently by someone extremely knowledgeable of things cruiser.
My original pre-98 OME said they were made in Aussie. Maybe like their springs they went a cheaper route.:hmm:

I haven't had OME shocks, but I can tell you that I love the Bilstein 5125's. I previously had Enforcer (Gabriel brand - same part numbers as Ironman) and the Billies have it all over them - transformed my 60.

OME are great new ... but I think that fade fast hense the 2 yr warranty ... I want Procomp 9000's cause they were cheap worked for a year :meh:now I'm waiting on the return of my rig to install 5125 Bil had 2 customer buyem and love em but we also did heavy valveing and stud convertions on the front all with OME springs

No experience wit OME..... Love... Love.... LOVE!!!...... My Bilsteins.... On and Off Road.... Top notch ride quality.:steer:

Holy old threads!

I don't consider it a contest. The deflective disc valving, like what is in Bilsteins and most other higher end dampers (Fox, King, etc.), is far superior to twin-tube dampers. Everyone touts that you can adjust Rauncho 9k's. ho-hum, the deflective disc stacks used in these dampers for both jounce and rebound valving continuously auto-adjust depending on driving conditions. No getting out and crawling under a dirty truck to make what is a rebound only, incremental adjustment.

OME shocks are built to work with OME springs, so if that's the spring you're running, I would go that route.

For any other setup, custom, SOA or whatever, I think bilsteins are awesome off road and on. Maybe a bit soft for on road, but the ride is great... just don't take the turns too fast

Bilstein 7100s (maybe the new 5165?). Rebuildable, rechargable, with or w/o resevoir, highly adjustable (internally). Last shock you ever need to buy unless you bend one. Spendy but worth it. Also for my measurements, the 7100s ended up being the closest fit.

Best ride I've ever had paired with OME springs. Gobbles up little bumps like mad with standard valving. Next level up would probably be modern iron filing magnetic controlled thingamajobbers. Install is in my 62 thread below.
