I am guessing the buyer flakes and it ends up on Bring a Trailer. It will sell for $29k. Just a guess.

If the bidding didn't play out like it did, then I would agree.
BUT, there were 3 other established ebay accounts bidding in excess of $30K. I believe the seller could offer the truck to them if the high bidder flakes.

I also agree that the BaT peanut gallery commentary would keep this auction slightly under control in terms of bidding. By pointing out such things as the rattle can underside, other recent comps and the lack of lockers, etc, etc.

That just makes no sense. I have a 97 that i added factory lockers, every little piece factory including the bolts and wire harness brackets. Only issue was the wiring in the cab to the rear. Anyway mine is every bit as nice as that. I even have the original little carpet in the bottom of the center console. I have the mats, all the paperwork, keys, etc. I suppose the mileage is high at 164 now (Daily driver for past 11 years) but seriously I couldn't sell it locally for more than maybe 5k. Why because of the fuel mileage and we live in the rust belt and people are paranoid of old cars. I plan to keep it as long as the rust doesn't get too bad. Now for why this ebay price bothers me... I plan to buy another 80 when this one rusts out but these prices will prohibit that.

Was interesting to see that the white truck listed at the same time with 94K miles held at ~$27K (auction now over), and only had several basic modifications done to it, but nothing too over the top... though it did look slightly rusty.

Wonder if there’s more of a premium for low mile trucks that are bone stock...

The white one was posted heree on Mud with the 35K ask.

IMO, putting a really high price out there and then listing it on ebay sets an expectation of final auction value, and effectively drives away prospective interest.

The white one is clean, but all those mods push away a HUGE portion of buyers who are looking for a pristine, unmolested truck. Either for weekend mall duty, or just putting into a collection.

At the other end of the buyer spectrum, somebody looking to bash their rig on the rocks, or just do some modest trail work, might be interested in the mods, but likely has zero interest in the low odometer. And isn't going to pay top dollar for both the condition and the mods.

So, it ends up being a neither nor.

That's my $0.02.

Black. But i plan on owning it for a veeeeeeeeeeery long time. Putting 3k miles on it this coming week too. What's the point of owning one if you don't drive it?
Amen - I have a ‘96 with 90K miles on it, but I plan to drive the wheels off of it.

Is there a thread for most miles on an FJ or FZJ80? It should be a gentleman’s contest. A badge on honor for most miles. 266k on my white 97 and that is maybe 1/4 of her full life. Still a pup. Hardly potty trained yet. Just getting broken in.

Probably a dozen threads on the subject. In the 80 Tech section.
