Nice. Santa Elena in the morning, Terlingua Abaja, Glenn Springs Road, Black Gap, Mariscal Canyon, The Window trail. Mule Ears. Pretty well rounded trip. I didn't see the Mariscal Mine but the canyon is a great trade off. I'd have traded the Window for the South Rim. Similar effort, more time, orders of magnitude better hike. There are jewels all along the Old Ore road, etc, etc, but there's always next time. A friend and I are planning a late May excursion. We'll see how it goes. Park attendance is way up from what I think of as the norm...
I may be out there Memorial Day or at the BBSP with the mountain bike. Post up if y'all head out and don't mind another cruiser on a runYeah, park was full. President's Day weekend, sure. But, exceptionally full. We arrived at 9am on Friday and got the last 1 of 2 primitive sites available. Got lucky with Talley2....furthest southern point in the park and no one for miles and miles and miles. Rangers told me it was way busier than they had ever seen it. LMK when you head out there in May. Might be making another trip at that time with a fellow cruiser. Would be neat to convoy on Old Ore and Black Gap

How do you manage not to get pulled over for not having a TX plate in the front?
Summer out there would be insane. I would imagine 120 degrees and no shade or waterAlso was considering going to Big Bend over spring break, but am going to Mammoth Cave instead. I may try to make it out to Big Bend this sometime this summer and would love to meet up with some other rigs for a ride, but then again it is quite a trek from Atlanta.
I was out there(BBSP) in December for Christmas, try to go out once a year. Ran a lot of trials, most trails will leave scratches, nothing some polish wont get out. I like the State Park better, spent lots of time at both. The rocks can be pretty brutal. Prepare for scratches. I took a plug kit, compressor and only one spare. You need to get checked in at the ranger station and provide vehicle details and approximate itinerary. A friend ran across a guy with 2 flats who was out of gas. Easy to get in a bind out there. Pack all water in and you can have fires. This is a shot from the "Road to nowhere". Not a real difficult trail under most conditions.View attachment 1638879

Definitely a cool place to visit. On my list of things to do in the next year or two.
I never run a plate on the front.
Went a few years ago, need to go again.
