The State Park is more remote and less traveled than the national park. More arid. The Chisos basin and it's green ads the thing that make hot weather travel possible in the area. No way to camp in the state park this time of year.

We would have to pick one or the other for sure. The State Park had me intrigued for sure. I drove the south border and it looked amazing.

I'm in for MLK. Can a stock 200 with AT do this? I'm hoping to have a lift but who knows.

On a side note would anybody be interested in a trip to the UP of MI with a side trip to Oshkosh during EAA AIR-venture?? They got lots of camping available and we could hit on the way or coming back.

Based on yesterday I thought u wanted to hit the state park. But you are the official big bend / Mexican border crossing guru, following you!

I need to read up a bit more on the State park but it looks really awesome but I KNOW the NP is awesome.

Mardis. Yes, stock no problem. The Rangers rock it all in stock Suburbans

Big Bend is not about the difficulty of the trails but about the difficulty of the terrain you are allowed access to because of the trails.

One reason I never went much when I was in Texas was I was hung up on the fact that there was nothing "hard" there. Dumb.

I could have done Ore, Glenn Spring and East River Rd in my Audi Allroad

I will say the 34" meats aired down to 20# helped the rough stuff a ton but the Iron Man Pro's were unreal.

I bounced them off the rubber bumps they have on the shafts a few hundred times.

This was cool. I wish I had gotten out my tripod and set the timer. Such a magical shot just not quite crisp as I could have

The summer trip is a different animal and not for everyone I get it but basically having the place to yourself is truly unreall

Next time I do a hot trip I will camp in Pine Canyon.

I did not know you could car camp there and it has cool temperatures like The Basin without the people.

Cooler temps also draw me into the thought of longer hikes. Being summer I limited myself to 5-6 mile round-trips that left most of the day for exploring.

http://www.nps.gov/gate/learn/management/firearms-in-national-parks.htm

The law governing possession of firearms inside a national park changed on February 22, 2010.

Visitors may possess firearms within a national park unit provided they comply with federal, state, and local laws.

Blah, blah NJ & NY blah blah

Please remember that federal law prohibits firearms in certain park facilities and buildings. These places are marked with signs at public entrances.

Random thoughts as I unpack.....

ARB fridge. Worth it's weight in gold. Worth it's weight in platinum in 110* heat. I kept food and drink and my camel backs in it. I love where I put it. Like Bomar predicted I was digging into it often so I would not have to get out in the sun.

100 series cruisers are Tight. Slee Bumpers are High clearance. Not having a spare shaking and rattling is Awesome. I used my ladder a bunch to get up to the roof and shoot pictures.

Every rattle I had on over 250 miles off road were the hitch (removed it) vent windows (closed them) and one that took me forever to run down.....my frontrunner axe mount. (Tightened it)

Water. I chuckled at Cameron for using his big ass water cans until I blew through a case of water in 2 days and had to crack into 10L spare. Duh. How easy is that? I kept a bag of ice in my small Yeti and topped off my 32 OZ tumbler with this thing. It even comes with a little vent. I usually only used them in camp. Now I won't leave home without one. No mount needed. I crashed and smash and slid and it sat right here.

Not sure why I'm up at 0300 reading this...it could have waited...but it was a good read.
