Unfortunately not so easy with a 13 month old, wife working and me on disability. Have to pick my battles. 500 or Big Bear. I think both.

Kids are great to wheel with. My daughter started wheelin' with me when she was 15 months old...now see's 17 (years old) and takes any opportunity to borrow the 80 and give it a good thrashing! Of course I had her driving the 40 when see was 10. Plus, my son is 14 and has begun volunteering to help wrench on the 40! Life is good...now let's see how can I get them to do all the work while I supervise?

Now that sounds like a good plan, they do your PM and you supervise and jump straight to step 6

Only problem with mine is he refuses to stay still, ever. I kid you not he was delivered and taken to the table to be dried off measured etc and he started scooting with his legs and almost scooted off the table.
When he is a little older and I can communicate with him better, I am sure he will like it as he is already into trucks and crawling over/under/behind anything that looks like a challenge just to see if he can get to the other side. Sometimes he even turns around and goes right back through again when there is a wide open route immediately next to him. I am certain he will be into challenging off roading.

I used to wheel Big Bear twice a month. It has been a few years, but I have a pretty good sense of the layout. I personally don't find Holcolmb Valley appealing, but that is just my .02.
My first choice would be Hanna Flat, although Big Pine Flat has flushing toilets that the usually like!
Big Pine Flat fills up first, then Hanna Flat. both are an easy graded 2wd dirt road out of Fawnskin. There is a fee for each site- Hanna Flats takes reservations!! I guess that means it will fill up before Big Pine

I don't know the area very well, but the link that Boydmick provided is pretty informative. Looks like Big Pine Flats campground (among others) has direct access to an OHV area.
I think I'll spring for the annual adventure pass for $30. The adventure pass website has a list of private vendors in your city, or you can purchase from the Ranger's Station.
I'm also planning on using the Father's Day angle to get the and the in training out camping, even though we're going to Wrightwood the previous weekend.

17th if I do it for a Day thing.
16th if I decide to sleep overnight with Nature - last time to camp in the woods was in 4th grade. And Im sleeping in the back of the LC . Will confirm 2 days before.
Open to any suggestions on where to camp (what trail to run is another story ).

Haven't spoken with my son about coming....the Mrs. ..... it's not her cup of tea, so probably just me and my truck.
I vote for Hanna Flats! I feel more comfortable knowing that we have reservations!

Kevin, you might check on the number of vehicles allowed per site. Often they have a high number of people allowed but limit the car count to 2 or 3. Normally not a problem but with us each driving seperate to go wheeling might be an issue. We can work around it, just have to plan accordingly.
