Bicycle Lighting... again

I use the nite rider HID lith on he bars and the geomangear headlamp on my helmet. More then enought light (Pretty damn bright). The geomangear is very light/cheap and you can barely feel it up there.

Geomangear is out of business. I've got a Magicshine 808E (Less than $100 on Amazon) which is blindingly bright for the price. I do need to eventually get a good helmet mounted light as well, got any cheap and light suggestions?

I have the magicshine also, crazy bright for the price. Yeah in April they shut their doors, I bet it was the battery re-call debacle. Good thing I got my new battery sent before they closed shop.

I started night riding and racing 24hr endurance races in the late 90s. Our team was sponsored by NR for a few years and I grew accustomed to having an HID on both the head and the bars. One of those HIDs saved my bacon when the headlights in the FJ40 died on me in the middle of the night in the backwoods of North Carolina, but that's a "Deliverance" story for another thread....

I'm no longer racing -and therefore no longer sponsored- but I still love riding at night and still like having a good amount of light. A couple of my favorite night runs here in Oregon are shuttled downhill trails where you pick up some serious speed.

I've now completely switched to LED flashlights with rechargeable 18650 batteries. I run a 900 lumen pencil beam on my head and a 1600 lumen wide beam on my bars. I keep an extra flashlight and extra batteries in my pack for backup. I source the lights, batteries, battery charger, and mounting accessories throuh Deal Extreme from Hong Kong. SHipping is often slow (really slow around Chinese New Year!!!) but I've been happy with the quality and price.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys, for your continuous input!

So, I'm thinking about picking up a light for my son's Christmas present.

And I was kind of leaning toward this unit from Fenix.

They seem to like it OK on mtbr.com here.

I tried to find an US vendor, but had to resort to e-bay to find Hong Kong retailers. (I guess they're made in China or Taiwan).

If I ordered now I guess it might not make it for Christmas, but I think he would be happy with it.

Any thoughts???
