Different Thread. It was a new version of KO2 that was made of slightly harder rubber and is near indestructible. Will not wear down BUT loses some snow/rain performance slightly due to rubber being harder. Over 110K miles on mine and still look brand new.

Was going to contact BFGoodrich today, but missed the window. The question was regarding the increased weight of the KO3 (57 lbs.) vs the KO2 (51.32 lbs.) using the data on the Discount Tire website. That's a big increase in weight for a 285/70/17 load range C.

Any ideas why?

Good odds one of the charts is wrong. It happened in the past.

I just got some 285/70/17 E KO3s and 2 would not balance at all and had to be replaced under warranty. Just putting this here in case it becomes a thing. Had KOs for ages with no real issues.

From BFG chat. So, The tire weight is designed by tire manufacturer. Tried calling in to see if I could get someone with actual technical knowledge. Short answer, no. The only thing I could get out of them was the KO3 is not recommended for your vehicle.

Update, after an extended time on hold. Their explanation for the near 10% increase in tire weight between the KO2 and KO3 is increased sidewall thickness and construction to reduce failures.

For those like me that found the load range C a more compliant tire over the E might not experience that anymore.

I have E rated KO3’s 285/70/17’s on my 17. Previous was KO2’s C rated. These are definitely heavier but ride so much better. No issues balancing. Have about 3k mikes so far.

Light snow- fine. Heavy rain they performed well on a few road trips. Better than my K02s. Very quiet once finally balanced. I had to warranty one. All good since. Would buy again. 285/70/17 on Methods

So many places mention how the KO3 is lighter than the KO2.
I need to replace my 275/70r18 KO2's, which are 58.6lbs, and I'm now seeing that the same sized KO3's are 60lbs.
This is per Discount Tires' web site (and others) on the specs of both tires.

I have really liked my KO2's but the only drawback was the weight. I felt they made the vehichle feel more sluggish and noticably diminished my MPG/Range.
