I am about due for some new shoes on my 80

I am 90% sure I am stepping up to 315's and will stick with an AT type tire. Given the varied terrain in our great state I am interested getting local feedback on tires.

I have had BFG KOs which were good and am currently running Nitto Terra Grapplers which have been great, so Nitto's are in the number on position at the moment.

Anyone running BFG KO 2' s and are you happy with your purchase? I hear they are a big step up from the old KO's.

Thanks,

Greg

I run KO2s, and I like them. I run a 15" inch wheel, so my choices were somewhat limited and I haven't tried many other brands. I previously ran the original KOs

I know Jason @jclarke450 runs them on most of his vehicles, and I valued his opinion when looking at tire options.

Zero complaints with mine and have been run in every terrain except snow, so far. Quiet highway ride as well. Would buy again.

I have about 3000 miles on mine. Love them.

They were quiet on my 1200 mile road trip in June. They don't seem to hold on to gravel and fling it everywhere when you get back on asphalt. I did cut one of my sidewalls though on the Payette Draw trip. Just a cosmetic slice so far.

I kind of preferred the previous BFG A/T's appearance though, without all the shoulder tread design stuff going on. That's my only gripe.

I do love my KO2s. I ve had 4 sets on 4 different vehicles now 80, 100, 200, and gx470. They are a HUGE step above the old KO. all of mine have at least 10k on them and my 200 has about 30k on them love em on and offroad. they are wearing like iron but super quiet still. I was over BFG before these came out. as of now, I still think they are awesome. based on current wear on the 200, I'm going to say these will last 70k miles. Just my $.02

interesting..all of mine have over 10k on them now and still look new.

Same with KM2's, some with 6 years on the dot date, and other than rock chunks, look fine.
After talking to our commercial tire vendor, I am trying the Pro Comp AT sports on the 4Runner, good reviews.

If Nittos have been great why change?

Currently I run Nitto on 2 of my cruisers (1 set of extremes and 1 set not) with 100% confidence

When I made the switch from BFG to Nitto four years ago I did it based on the experiences of other club members and AZ Mudders. Like I said I have been extremely happy.

Based on the good info I received last time I figured it was worth seeing if there was any new information to consider. Small chance I will move away from the Nitto, but before I drop $1,200 on the move up to 315's I figured why not check .

Huge investment when price is in the budget, research is key to getting the best bang for the buck.

Stick with the Nittos. I've had BFGs twice and hated them. I've abused the hell out of 13 Nittos over the years with only one failure. They're great all purpose tires and one of the least expensive.

I've got 235/85 KO2s on my Tacoma and I am pleased so far with their performance especially on wet pavement and desert terrain. 8k miles on them so far. I also have KO2s on the 60, only about 1500 miles on them so far but alot of dirt miles and I am happy so far with them.

BFG or Nitto, both great choices.

In the 10 years Ive worked for Goodyear and the 20 years with Toyota, I would say that the new K02's have had the most unsolicited positive responses of any tire Ive come across. Nothing but rave reviews from many people

I just bumped up from 285 Yoko AT to BFG KO2 in the 315 variety. I had no issues with the yoko, but wanted to try something else in an AT and was impressed with the data and reviews on the improved KO2's. I have previous experience with the older KO2's and decided not to let that old tire design cloud my judgement on these new tires. I have to admit that a part of my decision was the appearance of the tire, it is more luggy and aggressive looking than may of the other AT choices. So far I like them very well and don't notice much difference in pep when climbing north on I-17. These will undoubtedly crack before they wear out as I will only put about 12-15K miles on them over the next 6 years.

Since they are within a few bucks of each other, I'd go KO2's. Both are good, BFGs are E load rate vs. D for the Nittos. Not sure how they compare aired down given that fact.

All my friends have ko2's but because I'm a jerk and had to be different I just put Cooper STT Pro's on my FJ. I even upgraded to 33" tires. So as soon as I get an unnecessary snorkel installed I'll be a SUPER cool kid..... My last set of Cooper AT/3's lasted over 60,000 miles. I doubt the more mud like STT Pro's will last that long but who knows. $1500.00 total for 5 ouch!

We have KO2's on our Tundra and the 92 FJ80. Great tires, no real complaints. Huge improvement in wet terrain over the KO's. They do hold an excessive amount of small pea-sized gravel in the tread blocks, more so than their predecessors did. I would expect lots of this on the crushed granite roads that are prevalent in the AZ desert.

The KO2's on our Tundra are showing some of the tread cracking referenced in the above link. I guess I just think of it as more siping, and I don't see how it will adversely affect the tire at this point. I will continue to monitor (8K on these tires, 275/70/18 E). I liked them enough to buy another set: The 1992 FJ80 wears 35x12.50r15's C, they look brand new, no cracking in 3K miles.

Then, I recently put some Falken AT3W tires (285/75/16) on the 1997 80 series. Aggressive, yet quieter and smoother than the BFG's. Heavy, with a burly sidewall despite the 2ply construction. Frankly, I prefer the Falken's road manners a bit more the BFG's. Ice and snow this winter will be the next test.

Did somebody say ice and snow? When are we doing winter camping? #ThreadDrift
