BFG KM2? Or Toyo Open Country MT?

Go for the best deal! I bet the BFG's be cheaper and it's what I would choose. In a perfect world the BFG is a better off-road tire and the Toyo on-road but either is very nice tire and both PROVEN in either aspect. Until my BFG's let me down I'm sticking by them.

I have had both and would pic the new bfg km2's JMO:cheers:

I vote for the Firestone Destination MT. They are cheaper and lighter than the Toyos.

The Toyo MTs do handle like an AT while being as quiet. They also wear slow. The Dueler MTs (same as Destination) were also good on the road and lasted a long time.

I had BFG ATs and they were not my favorite, but no experience with BFG MTs.

KM2 if those are really your only two choices.

I am going back to Trxus MT's in 37" flavor, personally.

KM2s all the way if your going to actually wheel your truck. If its just a princess the toyos are super smooth on the road, but even so i think they cost way to much.

 The Toyos are very durable. They have held up wayyyyy better than my old BFGs in the rocks. They have not chunked one time and the side walls are still without blemish. ...And they handle extremely well on the road with low noise.

My vote goes for KM2s

I'll toss up a vote for the toyo's, I really like mine.

cheers

I vote for the toyos, i really like mine. My local tire shop has the open country for about 50 bucks less per tire than the BFG's.

KM2's and if you go with 255/85's you can get them for under $200 each from Costco.

The Toyos are a good tire offroad, it's not a princess tire. They have awesome sidewalls that no BFG has yet proven to have and a decent rock tread.

No doubt the KM2 is a better overall offroad tire IMO, and I am not terribly thrilled with my Toyos, but that's more a function of the fact that I really like a softer tread and a super quiet tire given I don't daily drive but I do take long family trips.

For a daily driven rig that sees serious offroad work, no major mud, and winter conditions, the Toyo is an excellent choice. I just wish they were quieter, because compared to Trxus they are flat out obnoxious noise-wise.

If noise is an issue I would not pick the toyos...

My NEW KM2's were quiter than my wore out Toyo MT's:hhmm:

Toyos are good tires but downfalls are noise, price, weight:doh:

I believe that the KM2 is also a stickier tire.

so true - the Toyos are loud loud loud. IMHO the other good aspects of the tire do not outweigh the onroad noise.

Agreed, and what is interesting is that in all the debate on Toyos, nobody talked about this - I would never even have considered this tire if I had known that noise was such an issue. My 2.5 year old heavily used offroad 50% worn Trxus were like highway tires in road noise compared to brand new Toyos.

I tried to sell mine with 2K miles for $850 (that's about $100 off per tire for a measly 2K miles) and couldn't do it - sure, the economy sucks, but people are buying tires all the time. I was selling partly because they are loud, and partly because I was ready to go to 37s.

I am going to get a tire grooving knife and groove them along the factory sipes (to the middle of each tread block) to see if I can get them to be a bit more flexible and a lot quieter. I would rather put up with balancing an Interco tire than listening to this nice smooth tire make so much noise.

Offroad I liked them a lot in my mostly dry conditions, this is a big, wide tire and it fits the 80 very well (I know people don't like them in wet conditions).

Loud? I don't have that problem. Not any louder than the BFG ATs I had on before.

Is this something that gets worse as they wear out?

They weren't my first choice, but I got a deal and I am happy with them. They handle great and I have had no noise issues.

Mine were loud from day one, I doubt it will get better. They howl @ 60 mph and up. Who knows? I've heard same about KM2's. Some people think they are nice and quiet, but I know two people looking at a second set of tires because they are sick of the noise.

In all the reading I have done, I think the only MT that everybody says universally is truly quiet is the Trxus.

I shoulda done 37" Trxus but I didn't have my new lift yet that should run them cleanly and I chickened out.

Should coulda woulda :flipoff2:

I've had the toyos and i agree they are a fantastic all around tire, fairly durable, long lasting and well mannered on any road conditions you get around middle or eastTennessee. That being said as far as a MT goes on any rainy or wet day off road i was miserable trying to climb anything, The toyos just wouldn't let go of the mud and dirt. On a dry day however they worked flawlessly sticking to everything rocky or firm.

Also to point out they were not an a truck as heavy as my cruiser is so that may make a big different.

The new KM2s are ten times the tire as the old kms were, I had a set of those on a samuri i had years ago. The KM2s flex up well and the side wall is much stronger than the old. as you can see from some of the guys pictures on here. They clean out pretty descent and from my experince at lower pressures that unique krawler type tread just wrappes and grips neatly around obsticles and pulls the truck up and over whatever is there. The downside of my KM2s is that two of them were hard to balance about 4ozs on the two i put on the back i think. They ride nice on the road, not very much noise until you get up 55ish then you hear a little hum.

I also agree with Nay on the Truxus MTs being a good third choice. I've never had a set but a friend of mine runs them on his bronco and while i've only been on road and some short trails with him i really was impressed with the road manners. Not to mention you have to admit that is one good looking tire.

:D thats pretty much all i have to say about it.
