Beware if ordering a new winch from WARN that many of the new winches come with a defective thimble at the end of the rope/line.
This information is from WARN rep. Mark Berkland 503-722-3047
Check the line thimble first BEFORE you install it and send it back (the whole winch) for a replacement.
The problem is the thimble at the end of the line is flared out so if you want to use a hook other than the defaulted WARN provided hook WARN's solution is to smash the flare out of the thimble with a hammer.
Example WARN's Factor55 will not fit with this flared out defect.
The flare is wide (more than 1/4" above normal)
Mark Berkland at WARN said this is within tolerance as the hook provided from WARN with the winch fits.
As the thimble is produced and bent, side slides were not used to maintain the bend without flaring. This is similar to bending a roll cage without a mandrel. The tube will distort.
Example WARN owns Factor55 and here are their instructions. Smash it with a hammer.
Myself I can see something ending badly.
