Hey folks,
I am on this site as a watcher quite a bit. My wife and I have been looking for an 80 series for a while (for her). This is one of her "dream" cars and in tandem with trying to eliminate a car payment. That being said, this one came on Craigslist, and I spoke with the owner over phone and text for a few days.
Today, I went to the bank, loaded up my wife and my 15 month old (it was a family affair), and drove 3 and a half hours to meet the owner and make the exchange.
Well, lets just say that when I got there that I was looking at a different vehicle than the one in the ad....literally. After doing some research tonight he had pulled photos from another ad on another website and was using them to represent his. He told me over the phone that it only had one dent in the bumper and there were no real dings or scratches anywhere else. That could not have been further from the truth. Actually there were significant scratches and paint loss on almost all of the panels. The interior had broken pieces and was ridiculously dirty.
Why do I use my virgin post on this site to say all of this. Because I drove 7 hours today and was duped by a guy who didn't have the character to tell me that it wasn't as nice as he was making it out to be. Oh yeah, and I burned a day of vacation to boot. I really do not want anyone else to walk into the situation not knowing the deal, or worse off, buy it over the phone. It is an OK vehicle but aside from the cosmetic damage, overall dingyness. it also had multiple leaks under the engine and transmission.

That being said, we are still in the market for a nice clean driver. I dont care about its offroad capabilities....If it gets my wife safely to the store with our kid, and puts a smile on her face, it will be a good day in my house.
