I've been talked out of having an asphalt style undercoating on the truck, and the majority have suggested painting the underside with a rust preventative paint product. What's the best way to clean the underside in preparation for this? I know it depends on the product so I'm also looking for some suggestions that way as well.

I don't have access to a shop so I'll probably end up doing this over time as a sort of project. Suggestions appreciated.

You could pressure wash it and scrub it good and then POR15 it as that sticks to EVERYTHING! Maybe wire brush the accessible spots with an angle grinder with a cup brush mounted.
