Well its just about that time to replace the kicks on the FJ. i was curious as to what your guys' opinions on best all around tire was. I've got a work truck so my fj isn't a daily driver... but it still does manage to get some highway mileage due to road trips. It mostly sees sand dunes, light-med trails, mud and a lot of pavement. I currently have BFG Rugged Trail's on there.. 265/75R16's.. im lookin for something thats got a little bit more meat to them but not too much to make a drastic change in MPG. i've got 3 tires in mind... BFG A/T KO's, Goodyear wrangler MT/R's and BFG Mud Terrians. my girlfriend's brother in law swears by the Goodyear's... I like them but like i said.. just seein what opinions are out there for other tires.

:cheers:thanks!!

I love my BFG mud terrains

I don't know anyone that has anything bad to say about the 33x10.5 BFG mud terrains.. they seem to be great on anything I've thrown at them and are holding up well.. Quiet on the road with big lugs.

There is no "perfect" tire. Depends on your application.

The BFG MT's are TERRIBLE in hard-packed snow, like as in "OMG I'm driving on totally bald tires" bad. I like my BFG ATs, but I'm gonna try to switch to MT/Rs next time.

my buddy drives with 33in BFG A/Ts on his rig and has never gotten stuck it has been in the mud, snow, and sand...I on the other hand run 33in GY MTRs and love them...The reason I like GY is that they have awesome sidewall protection...Their MTRs arent too lound on the highway and thus far have pulled me out of everything that I could throw at it...Like KLF said there is no perfect tire, but i dont think that you could go wrong with BFGs or GY...

Look at the Hankook 285/70/17's mt's....I have 40k HARD off road miles and it's almost time to replace them....they are the quitest MT tire I've owned....I'll replace them with the same ones....

I'll give a thumbs up for the Toyo Open Country M/T If you wheel around sharp rock where you need a strong side wall they are hard to beat.

But they are heavy (~80lbs for 295x70x17) and not cheap.

Goodyear Silent Armor for me.

That's I'm currently running (in 285/75/17) and I like them and will buy them again. Very long wearing and good traction in most situations so far - but besides being heavy, they are noisey on the highway and you have to air them way down to get them to soften off-road. Don't have to worry much about punctures or cuts though.

Go to TireRack.com

Select the size your want.

Compare ALL catagories (wear, performance in ice, snow, wet pavement, etc...)

I think you'll find the Firestone Destination MT's are AWESOME all-around performers and are much cheaper that Toyos, M Thompsons, etc. and have a harder longer wearing compound.

I'll start by saying I hate BFG's. I do. I have been a Goodyear MTR guy since they came out and I ran a set cause they looked cool. Turns out they worked great as well. That said, the best tire I have run on/off road is the new BFG MT/km2. I believe they are a bit overpriced (but compared to the Toyo's they are a downright bargain) but I have never run a tire that works better in every situation that that tire - they were on my FJ, they are on my F250 and will be on my next crawler rig

thats what i run bfg km2 their great aggressive look tough tire

I would recommend Maxxis bighorns. I'm on my second set and I got 45,000 miles out of the first ones and they still had tread on them. They are a great all around tire, they wear great, have a little hum to them and didn't affect my MPG much. I have yet to hear anyone that bought a set complain about them.
Just another option and they are priced right.

so you'd rather have the BFG MT/km2 tire over the GY MTR with the kevlar side wall?

Maxxis bighorns, best tire I ever owned, a little aggressive, 2 summers, 2 winters up here on the east coast and still a lot of tread for my daily driver.
