What are these best parts he took from the others? I'm not trying to be a skeptic, but I have a lot of experience with winches over the last 20 years and this really just sounds like a sales pitch he gave you. I can't see how the titan chinese winch is worth twice as much as the badlands (hf)chinese winch. What happens when you fry it? Do you ship it back to canada? Motors and solenoids are quick and easy fixes :hhmm:

I don't know much about winches but by watching the following videos, it seems like the guy doing the talking knows his stuff. There are many references to tech upgrades and changes in parts/construction/assembly. I'm sure the guys here with more winching experience will be able to sift though the marketing BS and let the rest of us know what they think.

Titan Offroad Recovery Gear - INSTALLATION/TUTORIALS (Powered by CubeCart)

I don't know if someone posted it already but one of the other sites, either a Jeep forum or FJ has posted pics of the gear sets from Warn, Titan, and Champion.

I'd love to see that link if someone has it. Speaking of gears, doesn't Warn use a 3-gear setup vs 2 on the Titan. Not that 3 is necessarily better than 2.

Just got a response back from Duncan and we are in talks for a group buy. I am trying to firm up details now.

Dennis, the TW-12 should fit the TJM T-13 bumper. Duncan told me it would fit the T-15 with no issues and it has a smaller winch plate base that the T-13 if I am not mistaken.

Nice! Thanks for doing the research!

So is he going to give us bracket pricing? 5-10 $###, 11-15 $###, etc. Too bad we can't get a group buy on shipping!

One other Q: Does the TW12 support remoting the solenoid under hood or is fixed to the motor.

Looks to me like a 3-gear set....

Watch this video, the solenoid is definitely not permanently attached to the motor. I don't see any reason that with longer cables you could not move it to under the hood or elsewhere.

The TW12 allows mounting of solenoid on top of the winch, on bumper or with use of longer cables under the hood....the cables are already pretty long so may not need to extend them at all. I have mine mounted inside bumper and did same for my FJC....my buddy put his under hood.

but short answer: The TW12 uses removable bayonet mounts for mounting on winch spreader bars...or you can mount it anywhere you want only restricted by length of wires.

Thanks Brock, edzachary the detail I was looking for.

That sounds like the old mounting system. The video I posted noted they used to mount the solenoid to the spreader bars in the center of the winch, but not anymore. It's now mounted directly above the motor, on the left side of the winch. I'm just going on what the YouTube video outlines...

he is constantly updating...so would need to check to make sure...but here is page off his website. Those videos are older if I am not mistaken...like 2008 or earlier if same as I saw before.

Here is pic of TW12 from website.

that applies to almost every winch made except the models that have it built in like some of the warns.

Take a look at my build thread. I relocated the solenoid under my hood next to the battery. I then relocated the plug under the dash.

Any reason to relocate the wired remote plug under the dash when there is the new wireless remote?

There isn't a whole lot of room next to the battery for greater plug access. Also, when I had it workable to have access to plug it in the hood would hit the wireless remote. Also, i feel that I have greater control with it in the cabin if I need to be behind the wheel. One day I will find out if my theory works.

I could have sworn that was the old model. I read somewhere that Titan upgraded from a plastic solenoid box to a metal one. I think that is mentioned in the first video in the link I posted earlier.

As for more info on the TW12, here's an excerpt directly from Duncan:

"As for the TW12 Winches Well this year has brought about some nice changes to the unit. First and foremost the solenoid is even more reliable than the Titan solenoids . The new Thompson is a heavier style Solenoid with 550amps rating and very well sealed . The brake has also been improved for this year, along with the sliding ring Gear and clutch engagement is now 100% every time ( no need to wiggle drum to engage gear ) the removable Wireless receiver is also a improvement as it is now stored in the Inside of the truck and not in the control box.
The finish on the unit has also been improved , the seals etc have not been changed but in reality there is very little that can be done to improve them."

As for the group buy, I am still working on some things but here is what I do know:

Synthetic package with Locking Safety hook, Tube thimble, Rock Guard, And heat sleeve, Aluminum Fairlead on 86’-0” of 3/8” dyneema with the TW12 Winch for $580.00

I'm pretty excited about how this is coming together...

yep....you are right. I was just responding to the poster. I was not saying it was different or better just that it was not an integrated solenoid as was speculated by earlier post.

That is a nice start. Current price on their website for that same package converted to current US dollars is $615. Honestly I would be perfectly happy with $650 USD shipped to my door! If I had that offer I would buy one right this minute.

I wasn't expecting hundreds of dollars off via the GB. I already assume Titan is working on small margins based on their base prices.

I'm 100% in on a GB if one materializes. TW12 w/ synthetic.

I was Quoted $615 about a month ago for the same setup as above. I've already posted this in another winch thread but here is part of a response Duncan gave me via some email questions.

"
Hello Jonathan
First and foremost we should start with the Water sealing question. We use twin lipped rubber seals ( 4”) for both the gear box and motor. In addition to this we now have the end cap bolts fed from the winch foot side and threaded into the end cap ,this eliminates the bolt holes that are normally found for securing the ends to motors and thus eliminating a potential water problem.
Another step that is new for this year is the receiver for the wireless remote now plugs in. The Thompson style Solenoid is arguably about the best winch solenoid on the market today
"

Oh, and sorry for the continued thread hijack. If this GB is going to come to fruition a new thread should probably be started.
