BTW $650 on the website is in Canadian currency = $618 USD. Wow.

For those who have ordered a Titan winch from Canada what was the approx shipping costs to the US and elapsed delivery time?

The first one I ordered had a $30 customs and documentation fee I had to pay...I was contacted by shipping customs agent and paid him to get it through customs. It was listed as REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT...paid the money and had it 4 days later. The next one I ordered was on my doorstep in 6 days...nobody from customs called or anything so not sure if it was from different address...or if Duncan is covering that cost...or it is hit or miss. So far about $30 is most I have heard of it costing to get over border...but I only had to pay that one time.

Shipping to my address was $125 from Canada....to Charleston SC. It weighs nearly 100lbs with everything and shipping box together if not mistaken.

I think I was looking at the TW12 with synthetic line. Holy shipping costs! I wonder if the synthetic lined winch would ship for less? I may have to pull the trigger on this one.

I'm becoming less and less patriotic by the minute... :o

I may be right behind you if I can get any sort of assurance that it will fit the winch plate on a TJM T-15.

I ended up getting that new style T13 on order (it's different than the pics on the TJM website) so I'm curious as well.

It is actually on sale now for $450 right now....

Ya but that's the steel line. Poly or nothin' for me.

Group buy?

Group buy?

Now you are just being greedy! :D

I will say it again, there is a HUGE difference between something designed in the US/Canada and assembled in a factory in China exclusively for the that designer. Compared to something designed and assembled in a factory in China and then sold to several US companies under various name brands (i.e. rebadged OEM items).

A good example is Apple, every single thing they sale is manufactured in China and actually dropped shipped from China to the end user (in the case of sales from their own online store). However you will not find their exact items sold to other companies rebadged under their names. You will find attempted knockoffs, but that is whole other situation.

Now look at the Superflow MV-50 12V air compressor that has a been a common topic on many off road forums. You can find this exact same unit, designed and manufactured by the exact same factory in China, but rebadged under several different company names for sale around the world.

The first example is normal business, and I have no objection. The second is automatically suspect, and may or may not be an issue depending on the product.

The Titan winches are also listed on ebay and you can end up with one a little cheaper by taking your chances bidding on one. Seems to me if they can be sold slightly cheaper on ebay he might consider a group buy...

I sent Duncan an email tonight asking him to hop on the forum and assist with sorting the speculation from the facts. I guess I could ask him about a group buy too. What do you think they will bite on, 10, 15, 20???

EDIT: Email sent. I'll call him tomorrow morning to follow up. I suggest the TW-12 with synthetic line. Any objections?

Yes, TW12 w/ synthetic line. If there was a group buy, it very well could sway me away from the Superwinch. At potentially 50% of the Superwinch price shipped, I could not ignore that. I've got so many things on the list... $600 will free up some other upgrades.

Duncan told me years ago that he took the best parts of the Warn, Superwinch, and Ramsey winches and then also identified problems everyone was having such as moisture in solenoids, high amp draw, etc....and designed a winch that took the best and eliminated the worst of each of the big boys. Matter of fact Ramsey has patented one of the things Duncan came up with for his winches after they saw how it worked....

He travels to China half a dozen times per year to check quality control and to make changes and give updates as to his specs and designs. It is NOT just him buying mass produced Chinese crap and relabeling it....they are building it to his specs and he is VERY INVOLVED. He has no middlemen and does not authorize them to be sold by anyone else so you pay his price with no mark up from wholesalers, distributors, or retail sellers as you do with the others. That is only reason they are cheaper....

Though it is made in China...it is not the same crap that most associate with high volume, low quality items typically picked up over there. I have had mine totally submerged..covered in mud...snow...ice....made long pulls of totally sunk Chevy Z71 Tahoe up to his frame with no problems.....and multiple FJs of various sizes and weights without a problem also. It runs every time I hit the switch and has never let me down. I had one in my FJC and now also my UZJ100 and never let me down...period. I cannot say the same for Warn and SmittyBilt...which have both let me down in previous vehicles within a year of purchase.

If you dont want to buy because it is Chinese and not American...that is a valid concern.

if you are not doing it for a perceived quality issue from its Chinese manufacturing...those can be thrown out as it is a very well built and reliable system for far less than other comparable systems. Call and talk with Duncan and ask him if you have concerns...he is nothing but upfront and it is him alone running the entire business with help of his wife some....he is VERY INVOLVED in every detail and level of manufacturer and customer support.
What are these best parts he took from the others? I'm not trying to be a skeptic, but I have a lot of experience with winches over the last 20 years and this really just sounds like a sales pitch he gave you. I can't see how the titan chinese winch is worth twice as much as the badlands (hf)chinese winch. What happens when you fry it? Do you ship it back to canada? Motors and solenoids are quick and easy fixes :hhmm:

I cant remember but some have better weather/water proofing...some he thought had a better planetary gear setup....etc.....it was back in 2008 when I talked to him the first time. Call him up....ask him all the questions....be interested in hearing what he has to say again. I am sold on them as this is my second one and had them for going on 4 years now without a problem....
