I ended up getting basically everything sharkCamo had suggested, including the bearing kits from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters. Now just need to find some space to do the work.

Here's the list of tools that I'm gathering for the job:

54mm socket - removing hub nut
Brass hammer - releasing knuckle from control arms
Air hammer - removing cone washers
Torque wrench
Breaker Bar
Assorted Sockets
Ratchet
Seal puller
Grease Gun
Snap Ring Pliers
Regular Pliers - removing cotter pins
Flathead Screwdriver - bending lock nut tab

Anything missing from this list?
Hint: Regular snap ring pliers are not what you need.

I keep a pair of the ones linked in my truck. They make removing and installing the retaining clips easy as pie.

Side question related to CV’s...
While changing my oil yesterday I noticed my right front CV had a little bit of grease coming out. Just seemed to be coming out of where the clamp is. Anyone ever have this?

Wondering what the solution is. Can I just get a new clamp? Should I add grease? It is minimal so far coming out but I don’t want it to go too long without being resolved.
You can get the tool for clamping for about $10 and a new clamp. Usually this happens when you lift it. There are "boot mods" that a lot of people do and also extended boots you can buy. A new clamp usually solves the leaking

Noted. Just added those to my amazon cart. Thanks for the heads up.

People apparently like the clamps from pfran CV clamp kit (6 piece). I actually bought a pack before deciding that I would just do a full CV swap instead of a re-boot.

Scrap the air hammer. The cone washers will come out with a gentle tapping with brass drift. You should have a digital fish scale to correctly set the break away preload on wheel bearings.

This is a good wheel bearing thread

It happens. You can try and tighten the crimp of the clamp, or cut it off and replace it. Napa sells an adjustable locking clamp for around $3. If not too much grease has seeped out, maybe a couple of tablespoons worth you should be fine to not add grease. (These cv's hold a lot of grease) there is no grease available that matches the OEM grease inside the tulip- it's only available in the OEM reboot kit. You really don't want to mix with other grease types if you can avoid it.

You don't have to remove both control arms, just the upper one.
