'nother option

I used a GM astrovan (saginaw) box which fits inside not outside the body.. it is really close to the engine mount but it fits... only thing to note is the early GM straight pitman arm and that it is a 3-1 box not a 4-1 box so the steering is a little fast. Another note, in my opinion, this box is more power steering than "power assist" as is the 60/mini truck box but I could be wrong. I run large tires so I need all the help I can get! HTH...

yeah pablo its a 60 pitman arm and it is perfect with the SOA, i dont know if you can tell in the pic my drag link is horizontal, flat, level, gooooood.

and yes the shiner does help, need a few before starting though as it takes the edge off the drill bit piercing the skin:doh: .

I would not group minitruck and FJ60 in the same class, there is a big difference between the assist and overall reliability of the two systems.

However, I agree that Scout/saginaw offers more assist than fj60.
I am running 37's with my FJ60, and while it is perfect onroad it needs hydro assist when aired down and locked.

IMO for a truck with 35/36" tires or smaller that sees the road FJ60 is hard to beat...

though the mini and 60 boxes arent as powerfull as the sag boxes i havent had a problem pushing the front of the rig or bending tie rods with one hand on the wheel. got a marlin tie rod a while back and havent bent a rod since, but now i can move large rocks/boulders without worry, so, its plenty powerfull for me.
BTW i am running a sag pump instead of toyota.

I have heard to run the sag pump and toy steering box... bet that is a nice medium to achieve.

I run 38.5's on the trail, locked in the front so it is noticeable to have strong power steering.... definately specific to the application.

What kind of pitman arms are you guys using for your FJ60 boxes?

Would that be the stock 55 or stock 60 arm?

I ended up with the asstrovan box. I couldn't find anything else that was within the budget. I looked at a lot of steering boxes today at the Pull-n-Save. The van was really screwed up and had 107k on the OD. I also picked up a hydraulic power brake setup from a 6.2 deisel truck.

And thanks to everyone for helping me out. I really appreciate it.
