Barn door bar with led lighting. Just need a good bar mat for it now.
Used some left over ally from my boats fuel tank. cheeap.

Underbonnet lighting, cheap as chips and i use it all the time.

How is that bonnet strut LED mounted?

Switched when the bonnet opens?

Permanent?

Awesome idea.

Awesome.

Very nice.

I have been playing with the LEDs.

First pic is my dodgy courtesy lighting attached to the panel pocket of the doors.. not happy with the fabric(ated) mod someone has done previously so it's just in there until I work out what I am going to do properly.

Second pic is where I have mounted the LEDs for camping

Third pic is the always on red LED button - it's like Xmas in the dead of night.. important for finding the fridge lid...

4th pic is of the lighting achieved.

I've had it for about a month now, plan to clean it up a lot more (marine carpet over ply, respray here and there - go on a death mission for the ever present small bits of rust etc etc)

Hope this turns out OK - haven't posted pics to this forum, and they seem to just be attached..

See how it goes :)

Do not know if any one has done this but dipped my roof rack hooks that hold the rack to the rain gutter in plasti dip black. Was tired of them rubbing into the paint and leaving rust spots. Once the rhino liner cures and rack is on will post up picks.

Great pics! Three questions...

(1) how did you work this to fit over the ventilation ducting that runs at the base of the factory console. I believe there's a push
toggle switch in front, and a hot<==>cold temp slider in the rear. Did you just make cut-outs? and then bolt the whole thing down
from the inside bottom?

(2) Any good cup holder solutions?

(3) How'd you make the cushion armrest?

Nice mod... thanks for the inspiration!

1. Um, Don't have that on my rig--'85 FJ60. I just used the same mounting holes as the original plastic console. the ammo boxes are a little narrower than the stocker and it off-sets to the right leaving room for the CB. The rear heater is under the passenger seat and the heater hoses for that run under the body.

2. At present I'm using some cheapie AutoZone ones but have plans in my head for a metal cupholder/storeage box that might just use the bottom I cut off the top box in the console.

3. I cut a piece of 1/2" plywood the same size as the lid, got some canvas-ish cloth at Hobby Lobby and one of my wife's old gardening knee pads. Cut the knee pad to fit, wrapped with the canvas (neatly, now, hospital corners) stapled the canvas on the back of the plywood and shot four wood screws up on the stacking dimples in the lid. I might pull it and add another layer of pad. Or not, works pretty well as is.

View attachment 1123805led strip lighting on top brake light. Very bright

Looks the goods.

The strips are pretty bright, you can over do it from experience (too bright), but it's definitely easier to snip some off than to add more..

Question - did you solder them in or use the snap tab thingers you can get off ebay ??

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/smd-5050-connector

These seem a f*&K load easier in terms of user friendly, but have no idea what a few kays/miles of ruts will do to them..

cheers.

So tried the headlight buzzer mod and works great. However it seems that when the truck is running I have a bad ground somewhere as the buzzer chirps. Anyone deal with this.

I have a general buzzing when other electronics are used. My turn signals, windows, etc cause a buzzing from mine too.
I hadn't dug into it, yet, so will be curious if anything comes of that.

This would be another good use for rivnuts/blindnuts/nutcerts.

yeah considered them but I thought I'd do expansion nuts in case I (or N.O.) want to go back to stock with plastic inserts.

annoying part I found was creating a template to drill the holes in the new cutting board. this time I used the stock carpet as the template and drilled tiny holes through both it and the cutting board after clamping them together. probably not the best method. next one I'll make a template with paper or something else - way easier

Good to know that I am not the only one with this issue, read a couple threads of people that did it but no one mentioned. Mine is RPM based which is telling me that there is possibly a bad ALT ground???? I disconnected for now as is a bit annoying, and thought it would turn on when running lights are on as well but apparently not.

yes, if the mod worked when any lights were on it would be perfect. but for the cost and ease, very much worth with only headlight activation. I be one of Muds electronic gurus could figure it out.
