Greetings All - Need some expert opinions on aftermarket fenders please. Wondering if there's anyone out there that knows 1st hand the quality difference between CCOT - Cruiser Corps and SOR. Price including shipping seems to be comparible (although Cruiser corps seems to have the lowest price $315./pr plus sh).

I've spent plenty of time searching and most are knowledgable about one or the other but never word on direct comparison.

Thanks in advance :D

These will be going on a 79 fj40

Fenders

I bought a pair from Cruiser Corps and it was a mistake. I had to completely rebuild one of the fendors i.e drill all of the spot welds between the fendor and apron and reweld. Also the pre drilled and tapped holes were in the wrong place. Ended up drilling more holes in the fendor. I wonder where the sellers Spector, Cruiser corps, Crusier outfitters get their fendors. Pacol Online, I think manufactures their fenders.

Good Luck

You could always buy OEM. I just bought two new for my 79 about a month ago. One side is correct for the 79 and the other was correct for a 77 if I remember correctly so might need minor modifying but will work just fine.

Thanks Dacotas - the tip on cruiser corps makes sense...must be why they're cheaper...

Seyser - OEM definetly would be nice but i was trying to strike a balance between cost and good quality. OEM looks to be a bit pricey but certainly top notch.

Thanks for the thoughts - it's helpful

looking like my best bet is between CCOT and Spector - can anyone help break the tie between the 2?

I think SOR, CCOT and Cruiser Corps all get thier fenders from the same Tawian supplier. Pacol does make thier own and the fender is not welded to the support bracket so it can be aligned and tacked in the correct place. I bought a set of OEM a couple of weeks ago but one of the fenders (right I think) is no longer available and might be hard to find.

chasing a lead on some used OEM fenders but suspect they won't be in the condition i'm (looking) hoping for...that said - pretty sure i'll end up going with CCOT. Forum feedback gives me confidence that the quality is good.

I'm in the same conundrum. The price of cruiser corps are good, but even they admit that they are thinner than oem and take work to make fit correctly. I'd be interested to hear from some one who have bought CCOT recently and how they fit. As for oem, they would be great but are typically twice the price when you can find someone selling a complete set. Unless I can find a reasonably priced set of oem I think I am going to end up going CCOT.

I know years ago I got some after market ones from Certa-Fit and they were made in Taiwan. They took some work to make them fit. I had to drill extra hole in the apron to add bolts to close the gap to my satisfaction. Right now they are sitting in primer, I'm waiting for my free stuff from the government so I can finish my 1962 FJ40.

I too am in need of a pair of fenders for a 77, I see at least 5 companies selling fenders in the US. If anyone who reads this knows if all aftermarkets are all the same, I would love to know. If they all fit like crap, might as well go the cheapest route, if there is a best or better option, that would be good info as well

Aftermarket fenders

Here is what I have found:
Cruiserparts.net / new oe / $600
Pacol / aftermarket / $ 570
CCOT / aftermarket / $389
SOR / / aftermarket / $389
Cruiser Corps / aftermarket / $315

All of these are per pair, is there anyone else? And who's fit best?

I thought you couldn't get both fenders oem any longer.

Yeah, but they actually look very sharp in aluminum. I might be tempted to go that way if my whole tub was an aluminum Aqualu tub, but very pricey. I also though OEM fenders were all gone. I bought a set from guy in texas that had 2 full sets, he sold one to me for 600 bucks and another on ebay for 900 bucks, yikes.

If OEM is no longer available I think the next best thing would be Pacol but you will have to have some welding skills.

I put Cruiser Corps aftermarket fenders on my '82 last year. They fit perfectly and no banging or hole drilling was necessary. Their fenders come from the same Taiwan supplier as SOR. They're 16 gauge steel and didn't feel any thinner than the trashed original fenders that they replaced. Not sure about CCOT's source, but I looked at their fenders and they appear to be identical to those I got from CC.
