So who has has the best OEM COLOR matched two-tone 40th edition replacement leather covers? I only want to do my font seat covers (no door panels, no seat backs, no center console, no arm rests, no rear seats) so I want the closest match to the original tan and brown.

LC Heaven is what I'm leaning towards.

I've heard Katzkin has a 40th ed set but not listed? Also that the center seams are like the lx450 seams (that would be fine if the colors match identicaly)

Mosely has a perforated option. They appear to be slightly different tan and brown and with a different grain pattern - similar to the old Shane/Metric version.

Did I miss one?

Bump.

I have a 97 40th and my driver seat cover needs replaced. Was going to do both front seats but leave the rest alone.

Does anyone know where the hides are from ie: US assembled in the US, or Chyna, assembled in the US, or?

This is something more and more people are paying attention to as less and less people want anything made in Chyna (or owned by Chyna company). In attempting to hide ownership some Chynese companies have begun moving their production to other countries in Asia, or even the West. So a product might say, for example, Made in Vietnam or Malaysia, but the parent company is based in Chyna, so the money still goes back to their Motherland (and the CCP (Com /munist P arty of Chyna) and the PL A (Peo ples Libe/ ration Ar my).

Chyna miss pelled on purpose

Totally understand the sentiment, just saying the vendor is likely to be the best source for that info.

Agree. Very often companies selling a product won't tell people up front where it's actually manufactured, and that applies to everything from leather products to medicines. The label mIght say "Assembled in USA" or Distributed by ---.

Check your bottle of brand name Tylenol or Motrin OTC, the label may say "Distributed by (McKesson or Johnson & Johnson)---" because the pills or the bulk ingredients in the pills are made in Chyna. Sometimes it does say where it's made (or grown), check your container of DelMonte of Dole peaches, very likely a Product of Chyna.

Regarding the topic of the thread: very few leather goods, from cow to the store, are made entirely in the USA anymore, unfortunately. So the leather may be processed in Chyna, Pakistan, or India then those hides are shipped to Columbia or ?? where they're sewn into the seat covers, which are then shipped to a US based reseller who puts their name on the final product.

i would hope that isn’t as much of an issue with vendors on here. As mentioned earlier, Cam is super helpful and very honest. Have done business with him.

I'm sure that's the case.:)

Did we ever get a decision on the 40th Anniversary seat options? The LC Heaven hides look pretty good.

thoughts?

These are my recovered seats from LCH. They match the plastic console and dash perfectly as far as the shade of brown. I've never owned 40th, but their leather is THICK and durable. Perfect for a Land Cruiser IMO.

Wow, those look nice. Looks like a fresh install. I was wondering if the brown was as dark as it should be and it looks to be a good match next to the door trim . Were you pleased with the lead time and service from LCH?

There were a few things that I wasn't pleased with. The leather took like 2 weeks to ship which I was impressed with. They forgot to ship me the arm rest leather, I called and they sent them as soon as they could. Another thing is that for my seat bottoms, Toyota apparently discontinued the manual seat cushions. At first I wanted a refund but then I thought my steering wheel could use a recover so I told them to put that money towards the steering wheel instead. No harm done and everyone's happy. My front seats are not the originals, they are manual and I have a '95. Therefore my installer had a few complaints about the fit and finish but on my end I think they look great. My installer also put the rear seat arm rests into the new leather instead of it having its own leather. Not a big deal I hardly have back seat passengers.

So your installer hid the OEM armrests that fold down under the new seat covers? Guess they are not needed, no big deal. The dark brown looks like a good match. They look great.

Do you mind telling me what the installation cost was for front and back seats? Not sure what my installer would charge. He charged me $150 for two Spector cloth bottoms for my FJ80.

Yep he hid those, yeah maybe 3 times a year someone rides back there. It's a novelty and if it bothers me that much I can always have it reversed. Thank you! Was a lot of money but we'll worth it. LCH gets a lot of bad rap but I've never been left regretting dealing with them. I think every business has growing pains and I think that's what most Mudders read about on here. If you go with them I don't think you'll be disappointed. Especially with the final product.

I was charged $1100 for the seats, arm rests and center console cover. Since the installer had to "modify" the leather to fit on my non Land Cruiser front seats. I won't ever go back to that installer. I left the shop with a bad taste in my mouth. He did restuff or restore the cushions so that was nice.

That seems pretty high for an installation only of premade seats, but maybe that is the rate I will find when I start calling.

I’ll give a vote for Katzkin. They do my seats. Though my ‘97 is not a 40th, I elected to have the 40th two-tone seats to match to doors. Could not be happier. The color is absolutely dead on. Can not distinguish from the door colors. Had these done in 2016 and they’ve held up brilliantly.
