As some of you know my two 80's sit for a while when I am out of the country. I leave the California LX with a friend up the coast in Los Osos who drives it when he wants to, but maybe only an hour a day once every two weeks. It sits ungaraged, three hours's drive from L.A., which makes fetching it when I come to L.A. a chore. A friend in L.A. just offered the extra spot in her garage for storage, which is great but the truck will never be driven. I'm not sure there is a power outlet for a trickle charger in her garage, so I'd disconnect the battery.

So the question is what happens, if anything, to an 80 that sits for three and four months? Should I do anything to prepare it for storage? Or should I leave it up the coast where it is geographically inconvenient and exposed but at least well loved.

Thanks,

David

FWIW, when I shipped my UZJ-100 from California to the Philippines, it sat for about two months or so. US Customs had to go through it, then there was a delay in shipping, then the Philippine customs had their turn. The Panasonic battery drained, as well as the backup Optima, but after jumpstarting with my Hilux it started up with no issues at all.

I think I'll only be concerned with oil depravation issues and stuff when left unattended for 6 months or more.

Would those be things like gaskets drying out? That's what comes to my uneducated mind...
