Took my rig to Toyotech in Santa Fe for a laundry list of routine tasks including turning the front rotors which I assumed were responsible for brake pulsing. Turns out, the fronts are in spec but the driver's side rear was the cause due to a bent axle.

What the heck?

How do you bend an axle shaft other than overloading or some other abuse?

Sure miss that 80 series full floater.....

Wha!? Seems unlikely!

How old are the kids...seems like they should be past driving age if not leaving the nest...I've heard Land Cruisers can go off of sweet jumps! :steer:

How did they confirm it is the axle? How did they rule out the bearings? I would start asking to see the measurements and diagnostics done.

Dial indicator on the flange as far as I know.... I'll ask in greater detail.

I did get my 80 air borne once, unintentionally. With four kids floating against their seatbelts. They loved it: " Do it again! Do it again!"

There is a LX470 at the boneyard. Not sure if it has axles.

I imagine it does. They sat it down on the rear control arms so the rear is a pain to pull. Also being that it is limited slip I don't think many people want it.

@juane , do you need the entire rear axle housing, or just the shafts?

Just the long side shaft. Toyotec found the one and only available in Toyota's American parts system after a bone yard search failed.

I had a bent flange on my fj-40. I never felt it wobble. Someone noticed it following behind me and I thought it was the wheel. No idea how it happened. Glad it was just your axle shaft/flange and not the housing.

I remember the stuff you would do with your 40. I have an idea how it happened.
