So I've outgrown my Jet combo belt/disc belt sander combo primarily designed for wood working...now its covered in metal dust and the backing plate is badly worn :rolleyes:

Found this last night while surfing. Looks like a very worthwhile investment or project for any metal worker. Check it out along with the two videos!

Since I have a welder I'll avoid the mechanical connections. I just put this project at the top of my "list"!

That's a neat project. I've been looking at picking up a small belt/disc sander, but after seeing that....I may have to see what kind of scrap I can get my hands on. Although, like you, I also have a welder and may have to fire it up...

Did you happen to see the pictures from all the people that have built it in the past? I like the idea where you can pivot the contact wheel and stuff around to avoid needing different tool inserts.
