just joined, saw the winch forum. hoping to get any opinions on the belleview 6000. I found one complete. working with the control cables. seller is willing to take $500. he wanted more. for a few weeks now ive been looking around for one or a warn and this is the most complete and well kept unit i found besides the fully restored warns for almost $2k

truly a taste thing. bellevue is power in only.
working 8274s can be had for similar prices. ive personally bought several.

imo that price is steep for a clearly well used piece

ok thanks. he wanted more. around here everyone wants alot more for warn units. I liked how complete and not trashed it looked. including the cable bracket

stay diligent. look outside cali 🤣
look on cl. fbm sucks more than words can say.
that 950 belle is actually pretty rare but still not 950$ rare.
the last two 8274s i bought were 400,270 respectively. both ran but needed a little work.
id never run apex, but it's impossible to justify paying more than that kind of money for anything used, regardless of the model/brand.
none of these shown are worth more than 500$ in my biased opinion. id be hard pressed to give more than a couple hundo for a super clean bellevue.

@gnob has a pretty good handle on these winches and the market. If you're looking specifically for THAT winch and it fits your budget, go for it. Especially if it works and is complete.

There are better choices out there based on OUR opinions but I also understand some people want a winch of the same vintage as their rig. These old winches just look right on an old cruiser or other rig from the same time period.

If you are going to be doing a lot of winching, an 8274 or other more modern winch might be a better choice. Come back and post up whatever you decide.

I sold a Belleview winch 1-2 years ago for $150, and was glad to get that for it (though it didn't have the control cables).

Like @gnob said, the Belleview is less functional and more hassle to get parts for, than a Warn 8274. If you're going to use the winch, wait, save, and get an 8274. If you just want a period-correct winch to look cool on an earlier Cruiser/truck, then by all means go for the Belleview. I have nothing against them, but if you use it much at all you will appreciate the power out, the better brake, the electric controls, and the added power of the 8274.

A used 8274 is probably going to need to be disassembled and need a drum and possibly brake kit. The solenoids will probably be shot. Checkout the price of possible parts so you have ammunition to haggle with. There's a good in depth thread with videos on the process.

so im not even sure if he has the power switch with it now that ive done even more research and i told him id offer 300 and if he doesnt want that ill just wait for a warn to show up.

i have a 72 jeep commando and its pretty original. i have a newer warn 9000 with the built in solenoid box up top but id rather have a older style winch. only good thing about that one is how compact it is.

so am i looking for any old 8274?

Pretty much; there are minor differences between older and later models - metal controller socket versus plastic, round versus T-shaped clutch knob, keyed versus splined pinion (output) shaft on the motor. Most parts you can still get from Warn for any year, except the keyed pinion gear.

I personally like the look of the Belleviews more than the Warns. To me there's something about the mechanical controls that look better on a vintage 4x4. But like others have mentioned, if you're actually going to use it as a winch, than a Warn is a better choice. So even though I don't a winch that frequently, I still wanted functionality and ended up getting a Warn. I have both an 8274 and 8074, the difference being the 8074 doesn't have free spool capabilities, but it's never been an issue for me.

The prices of the older Warn's seemed to have spiked in the last 5-10 years especially in CA. Before you could find them for <$400 regularly, now I doubt you can find one in working condition for less than $800. I used to see the old Belleviews all the time for <$100 and I regret not picking one up.

could you tell me more about that 950 belle/warn? it looks like an in/out motor. has the warn brake but the belle single piece case. he said he would take $400

@NOSPRK , that looks like a decent winch. If you like it, it doesn't need any hard to find parts and you're good with the price, get it.
It is still a good and cool vintage winch. It will get the job done. It just needs to be powered out vs having a freewheel function.

Besides, once you buy it you'll see 8274's popping up for sale like crazy. That's just how it works.

it seems these are sort of the 8274 prototype. has the two way and mechanical brake.
i assume warn went to the final 8274 design over this for manufacturing cost/design simplicity.
ive considered grabbing one, but like i said, they are actually pretty rare.
i missed one in Oregon because i had too many projects at the time.
these are referred to as the 8200.

thank you. there are so many for sale in oregon but since this one is local i can grab it and be happy. i did get someone with a belle to take $150 but i think the extra money would be well spent.
