I had the 2F engine in my 1979 FJ40 seize due to an oil pump failure. The block was not able to be rebuilt.

I obtained a 2F block from a donor 60 series Landcruiser (? year)This engine has been rebuilt. When I installed the "new" engine, the bell housing now hits the the upper and left cut-thru in the firewall of my Auqualu tub. This wasn't an issue with the prior engine.

Would this be related to a difference in size of the bell housings? Are there measurements that I can take now that the engine is installed or will I need to remove the engine and/or flywheel wheel to find the answer?

Please help. I waited approximately 8 weeks for the rebuild and the clearance issue is new since this install.

What motor mounts are you using. The FJ60 wouln't use the same mounting system as you 79. What parts are you all using. Including front motor mounts. If you would have used all the parts other then the 2F you shouldn't had any problems with the bell housing hitting the aqua firewall.

The motor mounts I'm using are from the original 2F engine in the '79 FJ40. They bolted right on to the donor 2F engine from the FJ60. Clearance wasn't an issue with the original 2F engine. It seems now that the bell housing is larger than in the FJ40 or that the engine the needs to be dropped in the rear or moved forward for further clearance.

Thanks for your input. I'm baffled.

Are you using the original bell housing or the one from the FJ60? Old rear motor mounts and bell housing won't cause anything to change as far a the bell housing hitting the cowl. Something else changed.
