Can we please keep non beer-related politics out of the beer thread?

Short answer: the bill is still in committee on the Senate side, and I haven't heard anything about it moving, but it's not dead. There's no reason to expect a gubernatorial veto if it passes.

This is the best chance the bill has had in all the years since its introduction. If it doesn't go, we'll do the same dance next year.

Cheers!

Whut?

Governor Lamb is a Southern Miss grad and I happen to know they drink a $hitload of bootlegged craft beer in Hattiesburg. Hopefully he'll remember his roots and sign the bill.

Speaking of beer, I was in Whole Foods Market last night. They were giving out samples of their new house brand beer, Goldmine Lager. Incredibly cheap, on sale for $6.99 a 12 pack and not bad for a non-craft brew. I may have to bring some to Katemcy for a real taste test.

I stand corrected: SB 2878 has made it out of both committees (Economic Development and Tourism) and is on the Senate's calendar waiting to be taken up by the full Senate. The deadline for taking an item up is about a week away, so there's still time.

I thought we were talking about HB 1422? Is it stalled in the house?

It passed in the House. Now it has to pass on the Senate side. As I mentioned, the Senate version is out of committee and on the calendar.

Several things can happen: 1) The Senate can pass the House bill unamended and send to the Governor 2) The Senate can pass the House bill amended and send it back to the House where they can pass it as amended and send to the Gov or invite conference 3) The Senate can pass the Senate bill and then the House and Senate can conference and the agreement has to pass both houses before going to the governor.

In any case, we're waiting on Senate action.

I picked this up at World Market in Mobile on the way home.

Sam Adams Imperial White 10.3% ABV.

WOW!!! One of...if not the best...beer I've ever had. It mixes the good flavors of a Belgian Wheat with the kick and deep finish of a dark beer. I really want to get back in the car to go buy more. The saddest part is if the current bill passes, it would still be too high.

Let's get back on track. This is a Warrior Pale Ale we brewed with hot peppers added during the boil and sweet peppers added to the secondary fermentation. The result is a delicious Warrior Pepper Ale that's crisp and refreshing. Approximately 6% ABV. Cheers!

Yummy

Just to keep everyone up-to-date, the House Ways and Means Committee just passed SB 2878. Next step is to pass on the House floor and then on to the Governor for his signature.

Outstanding! If the gov signs, how quickly would the bill go into effect? Wondering if Mississippi will have real beer by the time I get there next month.

I doubt anything works that fast but we can definitely send you to some better places to eat this trip....

You haven't led me astray before. I'll come hungry.

The law, if passed as written, would go into effect on and after July 1, 2012.

Hope that works out. Craft beer sales in LA, TN, and AL will probably take an abrupt nose dive on 7/1.

Shoot with all that Andy and Chris bring back from Flawda those 2 ALONE could hurt their sales.
