Do you have A Momentary Lapse of Reason glass too (my favorite album)?

That is the set I have. I wish I had that glass.

Good day for a Brew Day. I made a Belgian Harvest Ale. We'll see how it turns out in a few weeks.

Brewing question:

I brewed Saturday and had bubbles in the air lock from sunday until yesterday. Did it stall or is that enough? It may have gotten cool because it is on the scored concrete. I put a towel underneath it yesterday.

Andy,

Primary fermentation generally lasts about 48 hours for ales. Usually you'll see a lot of activity, and then it will slow down dramatically, so there's nothing to worry about yet. After about a week you can check the gravity and see if it's where it needs to be. If not, move it to a warmer spot.

Most of the time, everything's fine and the beer's still working, but you're not seeing the same activity. I've had 3 or 4 batches stall this winter. There was no initial activity, and when we checked the gravity there was no change, so we used a small portable heater to warm up the space, and that got everything moving again.

This is a great reference tool: John Palmer's How to Brew I use it frequently to check on things at all stages. It's the older edition, but it still has almost everything you need to know.

Are you going to use a secondary fermenter? That's the perfect time to check the gravity.

Thanks for the info Spivey. I saw you on WLBT last night...you're famous.

I do not have a secondary fermenter. I thought about transferring it to the priming tank, rinsing the fermenter, then transferring it back. I won't be able to bottle on day 14 so I figured this would help prevent off flavors from the dead yeast.

No worries, that's a month away. I can almost guarantee it'll be up to 20 degrees by Katemcy.
