Hey Guys

Just did a complete brake job and have read several different ways to "bed" them in on the first drive.

Here is what i went with:

-DBA Series 4000 Rotors Front and Rear
-Axiss/PBR Metal Master pads Front and Rear

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Stoptech.com gives a procedure, though I think those agressive procedures are primarily for competetion cars. I replaced my brakes about 12k back and just drive it normally. They work great. New cars give no recommedations for any elaborate bedding in process and when driven prudently, the brakes will last many many miles.

Hey Kevin:

Here's how I do it:

Take the Metal Master pads back off, throw them in the trash. Install OEM pads. Drive the truck like normal.

Seriously, I used to run Metal Masters, but I hate how they simply won't really "grab" under a hard brake. I quit and went back to OEM, much better.

Hey Ken! Great to hear from you! Long time no chat, shoot me an email!

But, in reply to your hating of the Metal Master pads, i will have to disagree with ya.

We used this exact combo on the race truck (80 series in the Baja1000) and they performed flawless in some of the toughest conditions you can imagine.

Thanks

Go find a lightly-travelled straightaway in an industrial park. Get the truck up to about 50-60 on it, and hit the brakes hard, rolling to a complete stop. Repeat the procedure 5-6 times. That usually works for me.

Well, I hear ya on how great they are supposed to be, but they just didn't do it for me. I first put them on my FJ62, and try as I did I could not get a really solid HARD braking action out of them. It's like they work great under low braking, grab nicely, but when you really put the binders on, they just got soft.

So I tried them on my pickup. Same thing. I COULD NOT get my 33's to lock up, despite a thorough flush of the brake system, a known good MC, etc. Finally got disgusted and swaped on a set of new OEM pads, and WHAMO problem solved. Now I have no trouble locking up the 35's, which BTW makes a pretty scary noise.

Maybe the slotted rotors help? I never ran those.

Congrats on the new wheels, dude. "Wicked pissah", I'm jealous.

Thanks Ken

I followed the stoptech.com bedding procedure in the am, drove the truck around all day running errands

Last night going down a very large steep deserted hill in my area, locked up all 4 wheels with the quickness and the ABS kicked in!

They work well with the drilled and slotted rotors.

Maybe your issue was that since they were being used on non slotted rotors, they got too hot and faded because the gases couldnt escape?
