Looking at getting a GX, just wondering how much space there is behind the drivers seat to rear door. Enough space to build a bed platform for someone just under 6 foot?
I'd go roof top tent but I'm from Canada and planning on some arctic trips where being able to heat up the cab would make for some better nights!
Haven't seen any build threads in the GX building beds, just curious if this is a size reason.
Thanks!

If you plan on running the engine overnight to stay warm, you'll need a roof top fuel tank, lol! I'm sure there's enough length for this purpose, I can try and measure for you when I get home if you don't already have an answer.

Are you planning on removing the second row of seats entirely, or folding them forward?

I know that with the middle seats folded and tumbled forward, there is barely enough room for someone your height to lay diagonally. Removing the seats should fit you alright but the floor isn't flat. My plan thought was to put in a drawer system exactly the height of the seats folded (but not tumbled) and then place my pad along that relatively flat surface. I'm 5'8".

Keep in mind that with all the ground clearance, that's a lot of air moving under you and sleeping in cars tends to be colder than sleeping on the ground (unless you mount that roof top tank ;)).

There's definitely enough room if you completely remove the rear rows of seats, but you would have to build a platform with front legs since the floor isnt flat. I've seen it done in a FJ with a hinged portion halfway with fold out legs, so you can store it in the back when not in use.

Thanks for the helps guys. Sounds like it would work. My plan would be remove 3rd row, I'll never need them, and build a platform level with the 2nd row folded down. Then have a slide out or fold out to extend the platform over the seats. That heater does sound like I nice idea too!

That'd have to be really high unless you mean just folding the seats down, instead of up/forward.

yup I agree, if you fold the seats up/forward, there will not be enough space for a platform to sleep comfortably, you'd have to remove both the second and third row seating completely.

If I was building a sleeping platform in a GX, it would be high enough that it would clear the rear wheel wells and give room for drawers or other storage underneath, so you've got the full width to work with, and SHOULD be (I'd have to look again to be sure) high enough to tie in with the folded middle row seats. These things have really high ceilings, so you've got lots of vertical room to play with.

I don't think the fender wells are as high as the folded seats. Drawers about 11-12" high should be fairly flush with the seats. I like the idea of having a hinged platform to swing from the top of the storage to rest on the top of the folded seats for a flat platform.
