Leaving Wednesday for a 4000-mile holiday to Glacier National Park. Nobody around my house could give a crap about the preparation I have gone thru. They want to know if the trip is for the 80 or them. :flipoff2:So here is what I have done to limit the possible problem that can occur.

Rebalanced tire to zero - 50 miles ago
Check brakes and replace front pads and change brake fluid – dot 4 – 500 miles ago
Replace front spindles (with needle bearings) and all wheel bearing – 10K ago
Check dif fluid – replaced 10k ago
Check tie rod ends control arm bushings front and rear
Set toe in
High-speed balance drive lines (3500rpm) and grease
Check trans and transfer fluid – changed 10k ago
Oil test for engine condition and water in oil (head gasket warning) everything pristine – 1000 miles ago
New Optima batteries – 10k ago
New fan clutch – yesterday
Water temp gauge – to know temp for sure
Aluminum radiator – 1 year ago
Back up electric fan with manual override
Check all hoses and wiring
Check wipers – spare set on board
Cut fender skirt to for ventilation and ez access to PHH and starter
New air filter
Check and adjust belts – spare blower, alt, ps, and a/c belts
All the tools to change belts – fab blower belt changing tool
A box of junk for whatever – hose splice kit, tubing, wiring, plug kit, ect.
Normal spare stuff – oils, water, jack, ect

Things still to do
Replace the steering shaft seal at the floorboard
Final adjustment of the LSPV when loaded
Wash it so I look good on the road

Basically I have done everything I can think of so I don’t worry about the 80 and can enjoy my trip. I’m registered with the Cruiser Assistance Club for some more piece of mind if something was to occur. If you see us going down the road wave if on the side of the road stop. So if you see me post in the next month I have problems

Two weeks after I bought my 80 we headed out on a cross country trip. Boston to San Francisco, 8000 miles.

Work performed for trip:

Lube oil filter
Topped off the tire pressure

Of course I did a rear brake job in a rest area in Utah :slap:

Changed oil, checked tire pressure, bought extra drive belts, brought tool box, removed 2nd seat for more room in the back and 3 weeks of grocery supplies. :D Drove from Houston to Glacier Natl. Park and sorrounding areas. :)

Phil,

We just came up on I-15 to Calgary. If we get time, we'll swing through Glacier NP on the way down. Hope we can hook up on the road somewhere. It was windy as hell going through SD and MT. Have fun and be safe.

How are you getting to I15? When travelling through Idaho I 15 is only like 180 miles from my house.

Ali we will be in West Glacier 6/6-6/13 then we move to the East side. I hate driving in wind.

Picking up I-15 around Zion in Southern Utah. Not sure how we are returning. It depends where we end up when we have had enough.

Phil
