Meeting Time: 9:00 am Leave Time: 9:30 am

Additional Equipment needed: Bring lunch, a camera and what ever you need to cut and carry a Christmas tree. California charismas tree cutting permit. Permits are available at Hallelujah Junction.

Looking forward to seeing you there. My wife and I aren't going for the hunt as much as the chance to do a little snow wheeling. Always a good time.

x-mas tree cutting

We're in!!!
Typically we go to graeagle and head south up the mountain at the backside of lakes basin, which usually has more snow and good trees. But we usually go the last weekend in november. We went to Lake Davis area once same weekend and snow wasn't much. Maybe 2 weeks later will be better. When we went, and may not be the same location for the current trip, tree selection wasn't plenty. What's your scope? We'll get our permit at the store in Sierraville on the way. Post up more info if available.

In years past, we have gone up to Frenchman's and turned east around the dam. We worked our way around kind of to the southeast and up into the mountains. There have been plenty of trees and plenty of snow.

When we talked about this run, the final destination is kind of still in the open and one of the things that will be discussed upon meeting at the gas station. I haven't been up there yet, so I'm not sure how much snow there is up there.

I think that if you have a better tree area with more snow that is in the same general area, most everyone will be up for the change. :bounce:

We can certainly discuss it.

Very cool..

Now i just have to figure out where that is.

Ken,
Coming from where youre at, go 80 east into reno. Then head North on 395...Keep going (its about a half hour from reno), and youll see a sign for "hallelua Junction". When you get off at the exit, there is a Shell station off to your right. If you pass the Ca. produce check station, youve gone too far...not by much though!

Just wondering for those of us coming up from say Colfax on 80, will it save us time to stay on the highway and go into Reno to 395 and then back to Lake Davis, or is it better to take 89 and get there that way? Are we going through Portola? If so, and 89 is quicker is there a place to meet at that location? Time?

Thanks ,

Teresa

The meet location is the junction of 395 and 70, the area we discussed going to is closer to the junction than to Portola. If it were me I'd take 80 to Reno then north on 395 to the junction.

I thought the bug station was before the junction when heading north???

Can someone please give me the exact address or name of the gas station-meeting point? I am coming from Truckee, CA so I'm thinking of just using 49 to Loyalton.

Im almost certain that the check station is AFTER the shell station...I recall this cuz once you hit the check station, it goes from 2 lanes to 1 lane.

Sounds like a good group is going on this one...Have a fun time!
Im gonna try to get my axel housing down to 4x4 labs that day...

The bug station is before the junction. I used to live in Rancho Haven and traveled it (395) twice a day.

Ok then,
my mistake. I could have sworn that it was AFTER the shell station.

apologies!
