Year

Vehicle Model
  1. 40 Series
Been storing this for a couple years now, time to free up some space. This is a us spec 1980 fj40 still wearing its a original dune beige paint! It has been sitting since 1996! I have records documenting 124k original miles. This is an interesting example as it is a California rig, but has some of the usual rust with a late model, but some weird rust. I cant explain the hood rust! It was close to the coast for about 10 years. I bought this from the orignal owners daughter so I got some history. Overall its solid and will need some rust repair, but not a tub replacement. Drivers floor is probably the worst, sill corners, left lower ambi door( other doors are solid. Rockers are solid, see pics for rust areas. This 40 is almost all original untouched example down to the jack and rods. The interior is pretty amazing, dash pad is mint, all seats are clean( minor seam separation, dash paint is shiny! Original am radio and speaker work!! Most electrical works. Original headliner, seat belts, floor mats. Wheel flares were added on day 2 , only modification! All emmissions are intact and original. All I have done since owning it is put a new non us spec carb on it, and put gas in it( tank was drained prior so no rust) new battery and it fired up and runs great! Brake and clutch hydraulics work, and it runs, shifts well, and stops. That being said, this will need baselining, all fluids, brake hydraulics and clutch hydraulics should be replaced, radiator replaced, etc as not safe after sitting since 96! Comes with the original carb that will need a rebuild and California buyers responsible for smog.( This would be great for non smog states to desmog and wake up the 2f! Also comes with a good bib and decent hood! Clear title in my name. I would personally deal with the rust areas and patina drive this, as not too many og paint late model 40’s left, asking $9.5k I can store for a while if paid for.

Cool truck, worth saving!

That hood is interesting, it does look as if it has either been parked underneath something with several continuous drips concentrated in the exact same area or parked underneath a fruit tree that was highly acidic and left for some time.

I had an 87’ mini truck a couple years ago that was parked in the old couple’s garage after a blown head gasket with a bushel of apples in the bed and it did something similar to one corner of the bed after a year or so, otherwise the truck was rust free.

GLWS!

This one looks like it has good potential, rare original running condition 1980 for 13k is a great deal!

Was this parked close to the oceanside of CA?

It was in Santa Cruz, which is a coastal town, from the original owner, was parked outside for 10 years, then moved to a warehouse. Probably why its a mix of rust and solid elsewhere..

Makes sense!!!

I have recently been working on the fj40. I changed the oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter. I also freed up the original carb linkage and cleaned it up and reinstalled it. It runs well and drives pretty darn good, no smoke, no weird noises, trans shifts smooth.!!

A couple weekends and $1000 and this could be a daily driver that can slowly have the rust issues repaired! This 40 is not a rust bucket! Itt has typical late model issues! Rough economy and future unknown must be the reason things are not selling!!
you sure it wasnt store up here in new england?

thats a lot of rust everywhere

drivers floor needs to be replaced

rear sill is done

whats it look like under the cowl?.....it looks like it may have pin holes in the rust similar to the hood

and the roof edge rusting from outside in on r side.....never seen that happen before

it would be a good project and if you were on east coast i would make you an offer

but its not a "patina" candidate.....its too far gone for that.....its well into frame off territory
