When I use the reference materials most guides state the LC use a Battery Group 24F up through the 2000 model year and a 27f in 2001 and beyond.

Yet my 2000 appears to have an OEM 27f installed based upon the 12" length of the battery.

Am I confused or are the reference guides incorrect?

Any recommendations on a battery less than $100?

Here's a Battery Group Chart. Measure your space and put the largest one you can fit.

Less than $100 batteries will keep you out of most Optima's and Odyssey's. The 11/05 issue of Consumer Reports liked the EverStart battery from Walmart in the Group 34/78 size. Only $60. They also liked the Nascar (Sam's Club) XLT for $100 and ACDelco Pro for $90.

Ive been using the Wally World special (Everstart) for about a 2 years, haven't had any problems.

Conclusions.....

After a little more research here is the result...

The 24F is a smaller version of the 27F and may be standard in some parts of the country...But the 27F Group size is the one you want for most 100 Series...It will fit with no alterations.....

The F designation means the posts are reversed with the negative terminal positioned closer to the vender.

Some folks are using a size 34 (some Red tops, Optima etc...) order the 34R to get the reversed terminals....you will have to adjust tie down...

27F is a large battery but many stores do not carry...Wally world does not carry a 27F Size in their everstart line....

You can get a Sears Diehard International in that size about $109....FWIW

I am running an Interstate Workhorse (for industrial use) 27F with great luck.

I figure I will switch to a pair of Optima`s when I install a dual-battery setup someday.

I can't remember what group size, but you can get two commonly available 12v batteries that fit into a Group 27 size side-by-side wired in parallel if you want to go outside the box a little.
