Hi, attempting a fix for those squeaking & ticking noises from barn doors, feels like I have a bird's nest in the back.
I presume this is due to the fact that after many years the plastic coating on the latching mechanism wears out, creating a small gap and resulting in metal-on-metal contact thus these unwanted noises.
I cut strips of 2 cm for top right door latch and 3cm for lower right door of 0.3 mm thick copper sheet. Started with a 7cm strip for both but it was abit too thick, latches got stuck & door difficult to open. Then I opted for a 4cm strip, wound as close as possible to the latch catcher.
At first I thought of glueing them with quick drying epoxy but then opted for super glue with a small vice grip till the glie sets & the strp to stay put & not uncoil. This rseulted in a smoother opening/closing action & seems to have done the job.
I have no idea how long this fix will last but it seems like it'll do the job.
Going out for a test ride later & will report.
