Well....the dealer is replacing the two lower ball joints and control arms. They say the uppers are worn but not in danger of going bad. So, i'm going the cheap way and not replacing the uppers.

Really?! Because in your photo in post 22 the boot is badly torn. I'd find another mechanic!

Why replace the entire lower control arms? You can press out the lower ball joints and press new ones in with zero damage done to the control arms. That is an excessive repair/parts charge IMHO.

I suspect because he's having a Toyota dealership mechanic do the work...and they won't do that.

If I had it my way I would replace all 4. My dad gave me the old "its not in the budget right now" bull****.

I would have asked Dad to replace the UPPER arms, thanked him profusely for his generosity, and then taken care of the lower joints myself. At least with the lowers you don't have to replace the whole arm. Give Dad a break, it's not "bull****" if his budget is tight.

I don't have the dough to cover the uppers or the lowers right now. You're probably right that my dad isnt just being cheap for no reason. I guess the uppers will have to wait for another day...:bang:

I'm still in highschool so I live with my parents. My dad still considers the 100 to be his own so he pays for repairs. If I had the $ I would but every penny I make goes into paying for the gas it eats and my insurance.

Got the cruiser back today with new lower control arms and new lower ball joints. The upper ball joints have not been replaced or rebooted, only regreased. I am looking to get them rebooted soon. No more squeaking and groaning.
