(HD Video) --> Baja Off Road Adventure Video of the trip

The adventure was amazing... starting to get more pictures and stories of the 4x4 Baja adventure up on the web site.

We are heading out from Seattle with the goal of Cabo San Lucas. We intend to follow the 2007 Baja 1000 race course (more or less) as we explore the desert, mountains and beaches of the Baja.

We will be posting up progress reports and pictures as often as we can on our blog Baja off road adventure.

You can also follow our progress in real time as we broadcast our position via satellite GPS and mapped through Google Maps on our web site.

The FJ Cruiser is packed and ready. We leave tomorrow.

If you don't have the Baja Almanac you can take my old one on your way through San Diego, I would be happy to donate it! And I will be following your blog for sure!

Here is my album on my trip in November where I was part of the MasterCraft Safety pit crew. We were based out of Bahia de Los Angeles and I highly reccommend the Mission de San Francisco de Borja. You can even camp out under a palapa on the grounds of the mission.

Oh and don't forget it's Baja Magic down South. Things just always seem to work out!

Thx... the almanac was one of the first things we picked up... Thanks for the recommendations too... We'll have to make some time. Those pics are cool... being part of a pit crew for the race must be a great time.... We'll wave as we cruise through SD :-)

Yeah it was a trip I wanted to do last year but was laid off just before the 1,000. So this year I was going no matter what! And yeah it was a rush waiting for those two trophy trucks to come in and pit! And to be a small part (1 of 22 chase teams) of the MasterCraft Safety/Rockstar team was really cool and they took very good care of us.

I figure I would help out Hula Betty keep this thread up to date since they are busy surviving Baja, updating the site, Facebook & Flicker.
They have posted up three blogs so far and just left San Ignacio this morning and I have enjoyed all the posts and photos so far. Keep on rolling guys, Margarita's are waiting for you in Cabo!

Thanks for posting the links.

Is there route available anywhere?

The adventure was amazing... starting to get more pictures and stories of the Baja off road adventure up on the web site. Not sure I was able to capture what the trip was really like. Didn't get as much posted during the trip as I wanted since it was much harder than I imagined... But damn it was a great time.

@Bluetribal thx for helping to spread the word.

@workingdog We'll try to convert everything to Google Earth later so it can be loaded into what ever GPS but for now here is the tracking of the baja adventure route

lgrt,

Some years back I did a similar route on my XR600 then did a different route in my 80.

It was awesome on both accounts.

Scary, fun, mind blowing at times.

Kudos to you for getting it done and not just talking about it.

It is something that you will NEVER forget.

A few pics from my trips... recognize anything or anyone?

@Skillet those are great pictures... Coco's Corner sort of jumped out of no where. Is that scorpion bay?

and 'Scary, fun, mind blowing at times' describes it exactly. It is an amazing experience that I'm glad I took.

Hey lgrt, how was the course out of Bay of LA to San Ignacio? My buddy & I are planning a trip next Feb to go down and see the whales in SI Bay. We are throwing around the idea of taking dirt from BOLA back to Hwy 1 it's about 160 miles. But he plans on bringing his wife and son and I plan on bringing my wife and my parents. All of whom enjoy off-road.
Curious to hear your opinions this is our map so far.

Whales 2011 - Google Maps

That portion of the route is not technically difficult. But is it long, rough, slow going and a bit of a route finding exercise. Lots of little forks in the "road" where we had to get out and search for the race markers. Several times we'd pick a fork and than within a block or two realize it was the wrong one... But it was easy to just go cross country through the cactus and cut back over.

You should be fine if you're not in a hurry. We had originally planned on 200 miles a day... we were lucky to get 150. The section from BOLA west was mostly graveled and it was one of our better days for distance. We made it from Bahía de los Ángeles to San Ignacio that day. The last 30 miles of gravel we were cruising at 55 mph...

No real towns on that dirt section so bring any water, food and fuel you think you'll need if you are going to break it up into a couple of days on the dirt.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. Better yet send up pictures and write ups of your adventure. We'd love to publish them. Stay safe and have a great time.

:-) if you read our web site long enough you will realize I can't structure a sentence, conjugate a verb or spell for $^*t but we have pictures and our videos don't suck ;) Thanks for catching the mistake letting me know... Dyslexics untie :D

awesome trip report!!! thanks for sharing and posting... I'm done :)

I'll like the flags idea/concept, it was really cool....

This is the first adventure we've put up prayer flags. It was very cool waking up and seeing them flying in the morning sun at the Bahía de los Ángeles. Even when we "camped" at motels :), we would put the yellow (Gyaltsan Semo ~ Victory over Obstacles) one on the CB antenna to fly over night.

Good to know, we have since changed our route and will probably change it a few more times before our trip. Currently we plan to split up that 160 miles of dirt into two days and do it after our visit to San Ignacio Bay to see the whales. So from San Ignacio we will head up HWY 1 and then over on 18 to El Arco, check out the cave paintings and then hit 60 miles of dirt all the way to the Sea of Cortez to San Francisquito. Then the following day go another 80 miles of dirt to BOLA.

English is not my native languaje

Unfortunately... English is my native language... since I can't spell it out in bit code... there are 10 kinds of people in the world. those who understand binary code and those who do not :-)

feel free to keep helping me with my grammar... I really do appreciate it.

@Bluetribal change is good keep exploring all your options... Best thing you can do in Baja is keep your flexibility and know your option. Good luck to you sounds like you have an amazing trip planned... being planned.
