Well, I tried the 'Baja Expeditioner' for my Garmin 378, and it did not want to read it.

Trust me on this, I have tried everything, including using a differnt 378 unit, switching cards, checking off the base maps in the system, etc, etc.

We even had Garmin on the phone (the dealer line) while I was at West Marine having 3 guys trying to make it work.

It will not work for some stupid, inexplicable reason, on these particular units....

Anyway, now that that is all out of the way...does anyone have a good option to use for Baja expedition?

I am leaving in early October and I was relying on this map for some waypoints.

Oh, and no, I cannot return my unit as that has been suggested. It is past the return period.
Besides, other than this issue, it is a very nice piece of equipment.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is good to know, as I am considering the 478.

Have you tried BiciMapas?

Does the Expeditioner work in Mapsource and load to the GPS, but then you just cannot view it?

Consider bringing the laptop along (if you have one)

Just some ideas...

Yes, I got the map from Bicimapas through Mexico Maps. All have been very helpful in trying to help me through it but the maps simply do not want to show up on the unit.

It downloaded onto Mapsource in my computer just fine and you can put waypoints on it, etc, etc.

It says it transfers onto the Garmin card via the unit then the unit acknowleges the maps names but they will NOT show up under map info and none of the detail will appear on the GPS, ie: streets in La Paz or the dirt roads you can see on Mapsource on my computer.

I am very frustrated about the whole thing and I am amazed that with all of the Baja fanatics out there, noone has done another expedition map that works or is worth a sh*t.

The 478 is identical to mine except it is downloaded with off-shore info and mine has inland lakes. So, beware.

It's possible that the built-in map on your unit is taking priority over the one you downloaded, and since it's a third-party map (i.e. not Garmin), that some of the bits aren't right. In the map page configuration on the GPS unit, you may need to turn off the basemap, or other maps, in order to get the Baja ones to show up.

I'm not familiar with this particular unit, so I'm just guessing, but give that a try.

Also, at least on my unit, there's an info page that will show you what maps are loaded. Does it show the Baja maps on the unit?

No to all of the above.

Tried all of that. Turned off base-maps. Loaded, re-loaded, and loaded again. The maps do NOT show up on the map information page. That is the major issue.
But they show up on the garmin card when you insert it.
I know a guy with the 376 and it works for him.
Mine is basically just the step up from that one, the newer one, if you will, with XM capability and some extra stuff downloaded.

This is really starting to piss me off.

I have it loaded on a Garmin IQ3600 no problem. I am have it on there with the base map and detail of western US.
