Surfacing from deep lurk for first post ....

How does one decide if the u-joints need replacing??

Truck is a 94 - 80 with 175K miles wearing 315 MTR's. I've greased the driveline and the birf plugs at every oil change. Yet the truck had started devloping a vibration when excellerating. No vibes when coasting. Also the vibe goes mostly away at 60mph (odd - no?)

While I'm at it... How much grease should be shot into the birf plugs? A set number of pumps or shoot it till excess comes out the plug? I use an injection quill so the grease is applied in the housing not slid in the hole.

Also, when I'm under the truck greasing the driveline I can turn the drive shafts about 20 degrees. Is this too much slack?? How much slack is too much??

All tips welcome and many thanks

If you have the CDL switch you might try locking the CDL in high and removing a driveshaft for a short trip to identify which shaft has the problem. But checking the joints is the typical grab and jerk to check for play.

6 squirts seems to be the concensius of how much grease to put in the knuckles

20 Degrees seems normal for the diffs back lash.
