So my first post and my wife and are zeroing in on a 2008ish 100k ish GX 470

This particular one has been babied by an older lady, never off road. Toyota service and recent time belt/ pump, drove great.

Very clean in side and asking 15500 with 2 sets of rims summer and winter. We want this for another 10-12 years (our "3rd" car eventual overlander etc)

It looks great, however its in NH ( I'm in MA)

The rust belwo looks surface rust but anothe eye would be appreciated.
PICS Frame pics

I'd like it for 14500 think 15500 is too much

There are others i can find thru "dealers" online with no T belt done, lower miles but all things being considers Id' be coming out ahead with transport, time, detailing etc only 600 $ ahead i think even with a car from NJ or even MD/ VA ( what ever car I get I will be undercoating it with bedliner X)

I posted this in the wrong thread....I have an ‘07 I jumped on that had 77k miles on it last year. It was from New Jersey and in hindsight I wish I’d shopped around more. It looks new compared to those pictures and your pictures make me feel better about the purchase! Keep looking is my recommendation. Seems like the people getting Texas trucks are getting black frames that look brand new.

Price is too high. Keep looking GA, AL, TX, etc are the best places to find one due to prices and condition.

Mine is a GA truck and I truly love working on it because the under carriage is in such good shape.

IMO that looks bad and irreversible. I'm not sure there is anything to keep it from getting worse. I flew to Houston and got mine and the frame is like new. Its an 06 I got for $10500 with 116000 miles. I got it from a used car lot there so Its not like I had to work that hard to find a deal. Also since you live in a snowy area of the country when you find a clean GX you need to find someone that can truly uncoat it to prevent yours from looking like that.

the issue i run into is
find a 11k car for 100k in a fara away state, fly to view it ( $$$)
pourchase it. Then take 2-3 days to drive back ( each of my PTO days is worth 400$ wise)

Then what I've been coming across is most dealers will say ,I dont know if the belt has been done which = anohter 1500$
at that point i'm at 14k for a car already
throw in another 100$ for a pre inspection by independent garage

sigh..

My truck had the t-belt done twice before i bought it. Both times it appeared on the Carfax. Once was done at Lexus and the other at a Toyota indy. There is also a sticker in the engine bay that shows when it was done. If the service doesn't appear on CarFax, Lexus Driver site, or a sticker indicating the service, then i would assume it has not been done.

To be honest, I think I've seen much worse here.

However, I second trying to purchase a truck in TX. I found mine in the Dallas area. Flew in Saturday morning, and drove 2 12 hour days in order to get home. I had a pre-purchase inspection done, but I was also nervous about picking it up sight unseen.

However, ever time I have to loosen a bolt under the truck, I feel it was worth it!

Yes, but....the underside looks like this.

Here's my 2005.

So, if you are asking for opinions, here is mine: I have a very mild build and so far it has cost me around $3k and i am not quite done yet. I bought my GA truck with 160k on it for ~$8k. I would not buy the truck in question for that amount of $$ then put another $3-5k into it. I would venture out to see if you could get a better truck for less $$. If there is a truck near one of the Ih8mud members, they might be willing to check it out for you (might cost you some beers though).

I"m opening my search, realizing that i have to be able to find a 100k sub $16000 base GX 470
its nationwide.
I wil post some "hey someonce check this vehicle for me plese posts in the future"

we're planing to keep this GX for a looooooooong time

Will take into account it being shipped vs driving to pick it up as MASS is odd in having to get it registered with plates before driving it back home

Not terrible, especially for the Northeast. Mine looks worse (bought it in upstate NY). Fluid Film is your friend.

We passed on the 08. W/ 100k. And low moderate rust

Going to focus on a southern car. Saw one on carguru but it sold last night. After 5 days. 89k 13.5k$ black 07

Dam.

Keep at it and be patient. When I was looking last year, GA had several to choose from. The drive from GA to Mass isn't bad.

The guy I bought mine from let me drive with his plates home, as DC doesn't have transit tags either.

However, I did get pulled over by one cop in Tennessee who informed me that the plates the guy provided were expired. Also, he told me that I shouldn't be driving on the other guy's plates since I had the bill of sale and that the bill of sale would serve as my registration while I got it home. He ended up giving me a verbal warning. I did make sure to get insurance on it before I drove it home.

Considering it's a Northeast vehicle I've had alot worse believe me. Just gonna make you a better mechanic. You southern boys are just spoiled lol. If it has a good clean history then try to talk them down. Grab it and fluid film or that NH undercoat stuff. Enjoy

Looking for some feedback form some of you whom may have encountered frame rust before. I am currently looking to purchase my first GX470 and make the plunge into overlanding. I've been looking for about 6 months and I think I've found the one!! Or so I thought. A almost perfect interior with a great exterior 2006 with the sport package so KDSS is equiped!! Yes a real unicorn when it comes to the GX470. Price is under 12k and only 100k miles. Here comes the BUT, rust on the frame and other places. Is it too much or is this deal to good to be true? Please help! Would be pulling the trigger maybe after Christmas/New year.

Not near as bad as it could be, but worse than western trucks. The KDSS bits look very rusty (like another one posted here a while back). None of what I see looks like a safety issue (frame snapping in half), but anyone who works on this truck will curse the stuck fasteners. Whether you buy this one or another depends on how hard you want to look for a rust-free one.

Agree with @SteveH

Wire wheel + rust treatment covered with Fluid Film will be just fine on either of the rigs in this thread IMO. I recently had a buddy offer me a 2004 GX with low miles for laughable money which had fist sized holes in the front of the frame by the body mounts, now THAT was some bad corrosion. Wish I had taken some photos.
