Ok, two rides and two attacks! I a afraid to ride today!:skep:

One mile into my climb yesterday I hear agitated barking and look up to see a springer spaniel charging me. I stop my bike and tell the owner to get her dogs under control. She stands 40 yds away say "no Barney!" but does nothing to control her dog now running circles around me barking. I tell her again to get control of her dogs. "he's ok, he won't hurt you." as I watch him take a running bite pass at my calve. I figure **** this and start slowly moving up the hill to get around her. As soon as I was past her I motored on. Eighty yards later I hear a scream "no Barney!" I look back and the pos dog is he'll bent for leather after me. I get off my bike and scream at the woman "get you ****ing dog now" she doesn't move. At about 10' I pick my bike up ready to crush the dog and scream "NO!" the dog turned tail and I rode on. End of story? Not quite. I get another mile up the trail and boom thunder and lightning. I don't ride in lightning so I turn around and head down the hill. As I approach the woman I yell "get control of your dog!" As I pass her she says "he could sense your fear that why he did that!" Instead of calling her an ignorant ***** I said "you are a rude and inconsiderate woman." she started to cuss me out as I rode on.

I was so pissed of at her arrogance and ignorance I called the Sherrif. The deputy said there was little he could do at this point because he was so far from me. We talked for a while and he agreed she sounded like an entiteled ***** who felt her dogs were more important than other human beings. He said he would stop by her house and have a chat with her about her dogs. (I gave him the license plate of the silver Volvo wagon with the "I Heart my dog" stickers all over the back.: ) )

I am on my way to pick up some bear spray. The next dog that does this to me is going to get a face full.

For the record, I have three highly trained labs. I would never put up with this type of behavior from them.

Springers are menacing and ruthless. You're lucky you came out of that alive. Check out some of IdahoDoug's threads for vicious beast preparedness.

Sounds like you almost bit the dust with that aggressive Springer. Next time don't be such a scared pussy and the dog will probably leave you alone.

If I ever have a dog that really wants to fxxx with me, whether I be walking, running, or biking, I just calmly stop, and then kick the s*** out of the mutt. End of problem. If the dog isn't close enough to kick, then it isn't a problem.

Trust me, that little s*** was never going to get ahold of me without a long f'n punt off the side of the mountain. I just hate to hurt a dog that has been screwed up by a bad owner. My anger is only focused on the biotch who blamed my "fear" for the encounter. That wasn't fear she picked up on. It was me controlling my rage and refraining from shoving that dog up her a$$. No worries now. I bought bear spray for the next time her precious even looks my way. Hopefully some will rub off on her.

this is the funniest thread ever! I have to agree with the above statement if the owner won't beat them I will.

Ride over the dog...just be sure to pop your front wheel first.

I'm not kidding either. One quick correction (i.e. getting run over) will teach the dog to avoid riders, and the owner well...we can deal with that one after you report back, "Hey, I ran over this annoying dog..."

Btw, I also own several dogs, and I expect better of them as well.

Make a good strong mix of bleach & water in a water bottle and give the dog a good blast to the face when hes close enough. Save some for the dogs owner too.

If I were riding my old yeti I would have rolled it. But according to the interweb carbon frames are delicate. I didn't want to risk damaging my precious frame.

Wut?! Your ride is still in mint condition? Just means you aren't riding hard enough ;)

When i have time, I'll share my little run in with a bull while I was out on a road ride approximately 50 miles from town...now that was an amusing little event.

I crashed the fxxx out of a nice new Ibis Mojo full suspension carbon frame last weekend. No problems.

Also, I have a loud powerful heavy mtb racing buddy who has been racing xc for a couple years on a carbon mtb with a broken (I mean broken, as in punched thru) rear stay. He says he can't even feel a loss of rigidity!!

On the other hand I've seen carbon frames snap unexpectedly for little apparent reason.

My takeaway is that carbon frames are probably as strong and durable as frames made of other materials (especially at a weight-to-weight comparison), but are more susceptible to manufacturing errors. However, manufacturing advances in the last 5 years make those mfgr errors much less likely. So I have no hesitation about riding a carbon mtb as hard as my fear of injury will let me :-)

To tell the truth I am not too worried. I have ridden this one about as it can be ridden. If there were flaws I would expect then to have shown up.

But you never know, that springer could have snapped my down tube like a milk bone! They have deceptively powerful jaws!

I have never worked or trained English springer before but a few weeks ago, visited my cousin in central Oregon for the first time at her house in 25 years. She has to springer spaniel. Wow those things have energy! I was playing ball with them and the youngest one had so much energy, it ate 1.5 times more food then the others, and you can count its ribs is metabolism was so high. I was very affectionate bu also, just so stung out "hyper" and wiggley. The thing was crawling under my legs and onto its back as I sat on the cement stairs. It was just a wiggling away loving to have its stomach rubbed :)

I think in your case, this is a owner problem not disciplining and teaching her dogs good manors. From my experience of those dogs, they love to be around people :)
