Axles with centered housing?? (1 Viewer)

Just looking for anyone who has done this, or can give me a few ideas of which vehicle to pull from.

I went with a Chevy 350, then put a 700R4 behind it, adapted it to my 3 speed transfer (had to replace it with a 72), and am really thinking about finding the best fitting axles to use with my Chevy drive train.

I know it's not very "toyota-ish". I don't care. I'd like to find axles with centered shafts so I can drop the adapter kit, use a chevy transfer case if it'll work and go from there. Couldn't find much on the Tech Pages, so any ideas are cool. I've got the facilities to do a LOT of trial and error, so throw some thoughts my way. I heard some of the Chevy transfer cases won't work, then I heard I'd have to change the axles...and so on and so forth...well...come on, let me know what you think. Thanks all.

How about a toyota mini truck hybrid. I heard it was possible to cut and center the 40 housing and use the toy mini brakes and axle shafts. I'm getting a toy for just that reason. I also get front disc as a bonus. The NP 205 can be bolted to the R4 with ease and the 205 can be twin sticked. Then you can "Atlas" around tight spots.

The Land Cruiser - mini hybrids are designed to maintain the Cruiser diff. If you don't really need to keep the Cruiser third member, then you could use a complete mini rear axle or a Dana, Ford or Corporate axle. The narrowest of these last three is going to be in the range of 62-65" (WMS), so if you want to end up with a width similar to the stock LC you will need to narrow the housing and the axles.

what about a 14bolt semi floot 6 lug axle from 88-92 2x4 chevy 3/4 ton ??? should be about the WSW theres one on WWW.lonestar4x4.net it might be a 4x4 though

Thats the option I would want! Does it work? Is it really weak or something?

well I understand the potential for axle cutting, etc...but I'm really wondering if anyone has put anything underneath that's close to the stock lengths...not too concerned if it's a little wider, just don't want it looking too spread out. I've got more chevy transfer cases than I know what to do with, but I haven't really dug into the axle scene. Would the mini truck axles need a lot of alteration? Right now I've got the AA kit for my 700R4. I'd be selling that for pretty cheap too.
