Probably not what anyone is looking for in the way of an attached awning, but I recently won a Moon Shade from Moon Fabrications, and have found it pretty versatile. It fits over the hatch or along the side. It is 7'x9', and can be attached in either orientation using bungee toggles or the included super suction cup. Plus, it can be used standalone (with two extra poles), or as a windbreak on the ARB 2500 or 2000 on my trailer. At $350 retail, it is a bit less than the ARB 2000 Touring I bought earlier this year, erects and stores in about the same time, and has zero wind drag while driving.

I probably wouldn't have gone out an bought one, because it looked gimicky, but it turns out is is well made and pretty darn useful!

I have the Yakima slim shady awning that comes with hardware/clamps to connect to the OEM cross bars. Super easy to connect and take off. Looks like you can buy their mounts separately, parts are listed in the second link.
Interestingly the Yakima Slim Shady website says that the awning is not compatible with a 2021 Land Cruiser with a factory roof rack.

I wonder if the website is erroneous or if they have changed the awning since you bought yours, @TLC2013.

Or if the factory roof rack has changed on the 200’s.

When did you buy the awning and what size?
I was considering the 8’ version.

That's interesting that Yakima says it is not compatible....the cross bars are the same over the years and the awning just clamps around them. Maybe they are implying that the heritage with the roof basket isn't compatible?
An 8' awning is far superior in coverage to the 6' which I had. I have recently switched to a 180 awning which i am likely a lot.

I just tried entering my car as a 2014 LC with factory roof rack and Yakima web site still says that the slim shady is not compatible.

So I guess it’s just an overall error with the Yakima web site.

Bizzare.... did they change the mounts? I doubt it as it is marketed as an awning to be compatible with factory rails and bars. Here is what my awning mounts look like. It's about 2 years old. Purchased from REI.

Some good tips in this thread. I recently bought an Intech Explore trailer that came with an OVS Nomadic 270 awning. We don't use it on the camper, so I'm thinking of mounting it to my LX.

Curious if you guys have tips for this scenario:
- Stock LX roof rails (shorter than LC)
- Yakima Timberline brackets with 60" CoreBars (w/ ~7" of overhang from center of factory rails)

Overland Vehicle Systems Nomadic 270 Degree Awning Mounting Bracket Close Up

The OVS awning currently hangs from 3 of these beefy brackets on the camper, spread out evenly over 4'. It weighs 72 lbs. I want to keep the Yakima bars installed on the LX, as they provide the necessary clearance for our Yakima Skybox(es) to clear the tailgate.

Curious what you guys think about these options:

Scenario 1
  • Install 2 (or 3) Gamiviti Multibrackets to the OEM rails
    • mount OVS awning brackets to the Gamiviti Multibracket
  • Swap 60" CoreBars to 50" to eliminate CoreBar overhang (so awning can fit closer to the vehicle)

Scenario 2
  • Somehow mount the OVS Awning Brackets directly to the existing Yakima CoreBars.
    • I don't know what mounts would allow this, and I'm sure it's a bad idea to mount an awning to the "overhanging" part of the Yakima rails, for fear of them sliding off under the weight.
    • Suppose I could still shorten the CoreBars to 50" so any additional brackets are mounted "inside" the LX rails, rather than on the overhang.

Scenario 3 - Open to suggestions!

I'm curently contemplating something similar myself. Currently have the stock LX shorter roof rack and looking at mounting either a Rhino Foxwing (approx 40lbs) or a OVS 270 (approx 72lbs). I'm worried as I don't have a full length roof rack, it'll either be too heavy or I risk my future mounts failing as I dont have enough spacing between the mounts with the added weight of the OVS for example.

Looking at getting LFD crossbars in the future but afraid the stock side rails might fail due to the weight.
